Spoken like an MSNBC commentator. And the left is perfect? Haven't delved into his tweets on transgender people, an issue I am keen on with several transgender friends and family members. There are many issues with young children and athletes that are controversial that impact parental and women's rights, and with many libs, there is no middle ground even for questions or discussion. Its out with the broad brush right wing, conspiracy theory labels because some people cannot handle a reasoned discussion.

Do you think there ever will be one charging port standard, and not this "official adapter " nonsense? Think how silly it would be to have to lug around a few adapters in your trunk to fuel up at a gas station, because the nozzles at Shell and BP don't fit Fords only Exxon.

Don't want to turn this political, but you're off. Sanders, Warren, AOC...etc made the first move against Musk. Attacking the successful, billionaire entrepreneur, even after he paid the highest tax bill in history. He never complained about his taxes, said he was happy to pay, and said publicly he voted Biden, yet they attacked him nonetheless.

Elon isn't anti trans. He is against mutilating and chemically castrating children and the ideology that supports it. Elon has a trans child.

Climate change denial is exclusively a right position. Tesla is doing more to combat climate change than any other global entity.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but those that don't toe the line on the one true narrative on the left are labeled conspiracy theorists. Plenty of conspiracies have turned out to be true lately.

I say all this from a classical liberal point of view. I'll be happily throwing my vote away on a 3rd party candidate.

What politicians said or did not say about Elon Musk has no bearing on his point of view on social issues. He's put up tweets hostile to Fauci, along the lines of right wing anti-vaxxers. His complaints about having to use they/them instead of he or she are straight out of the right. He has frequently retweeted conspiracy theory nonsense coming from the right amd white supremacists.

Yeah, I think the Tesla NACS adapters will be the standard. I’ve used the CCS adapter twice in the three years I’ve owned a Tesla. Worked fine - no problem. Since Teslas don’t have a gas tank, there is an extra hidden trunk space where I have a cable and the CCS adapter.

I think Musk has been playing nice with the Trumpsters is to get them back on X. He’s also a weird dude. I tend to ignore his political posts - or try to.

But he is also, undeniably a genius and an incredible innovator. He is the Thomas Edison of our time.

Turning back to EVs, remember when the Know-Nothings feared EVs would be lining the sides of highways during an emergency. Ha-Ha. Ridiculous, but the paid fear-mongers from the oil industry really did stoke this nonsense.

So let’s see what happens in Florida as the latest tropical storm bears down. Some idiot mixed diesel and gasoline at 30 gas stations in Flerida. Oops.

I can see I'm attempting to debate a follower of the one true narrative. Musk is a thought criminal. He should be brought to the ministry of love for reeducation. Asking questions is conspiracy, transphobic, and racist. We don't have to go any further.

It's actually pretty funny to see persecution-complex-immersed cult-worshipers of a car company, convinced there are conspiracies against that company (and apparently against the company's narcisisstic billionaire CEO), trying to point fingers at someone else for having a "one true narrative" mentality. 😀

Reminds me of nothing so much as the persecution-complex-immersed cult-worshipers of a certain divisive narcisisstic billionaire politician.

I honestly don't think he's placating. He's invited politicians from any/all parties onto X for a live Spaces chat. More from the right have accepted the offer, but it remains an open invitation.
The political establishment doesn't like long form, unscripted interviews. It's too risky. Sad, but true.

Who knows? He seems like he's trolling people on the left because they annoy him. But even that is evidence of partisanship because he doesn't seem to feel the need to troll people on the right, despite the fact that so many of them are crazed and even dangerous. He's bothered by they/them but not bothered enough by Trump to call him out on his behavior??

I don't think his or anybody's political views are worth arguing about either. Or even bringing up in the first place.

About the last thing I care to know about anybody is what their political views are, or how they vote. It has to be one of the most inaccurate, most worthless ways to understand a person. Most people don't, if you press them hard enough for details, even believe in most of their own ideological BS (although they usually won't admit it to themselves).

"Oh I don't know about all that", they say. "All I know is I'm definitely not one a them." That's what political parties are today. A mutable, amorphous, ill-defined concept of what we're NOT that changes constantly to whatever will polarize people most effectively at any given time.

I want to know when the world will grow beyond this long-running tribalistic phase. Us versus them made sense when we were living in caves. Doesn't really make so much sense anymore. Show me a partisan and I'll show you a caveman.

I was pointing out the irony of a guy with very right wing political attitudes being the driving force behind a cause dear to the left, a dilemma for partisan types. And a partisan type had to try to argue it, unsurprisingly.

I think Musk and Trump are fairly similarly in that neither person actually cares in the slightest about left versus right, or all the political/ideological BS that the "little people" obsess about.

IMO, neither person is left or right leaning at all, despite the statements they make. Trump is 100% all about what's good for Trump. Musk is 100% all about what's good for Musk. I've seen plenty of evidence of that with both of them and virtually no evidence to contradict it.

Musk has a net worth of $200B, right? You really think he gives a crap about free speech or what happens to trans people? At best, he might give such things fleeting thought out of boredom and a misplaced belief in the infallibility of his thoughts.

Or maybe not so misplaced. Unlike Trump, Musk can pretty much say and do what he wants and buy his way out of it. Must be hard to resist urges with that sort of safety net.

I do admire and appreciate all the things Musk is doing with new technologies. Legacy car makers dragged their feet for decades on EVs until Tesla came along. I just don't care what his opinions are on social and political matters.

Have yet to see a single post of yours clearly outlining what are his "very right wing political attitudes."
That he thinks that children who declare themselves trans should freely be allowed to have gender reassignment surgery, an irreversible procedure, even when one parent objects? Not even sure if that is his position, but just guessing it is along those lines, and the libs twist it into something else more sinister to fit their narrative. I have a close friend who is transgender who advised me that people under 25 should strongly consider waiting to have gender reassignment surgery because the brain is not fully developed until 25 years old (in her view).

You will note I said "gender reassignment surgery." I'm fairly in tune with all of this for reasons I mentioned previously. I love all people, except for entrenched, dogmatic stalwarts. We are going to the Wisconsin football game with two transgender people, and we plan to have a damn good time. If anyone says or does anything to the two in our party, it will be on. Weird that I can freely discuss these issues with them without judgment or being labeled as a right winger, but you spout the MSNBC/NYT/CNN party line and drag out the labels at the first sign of disagreement. There used to be a thing called nuance in these delicate situations that lefties have abandoned in favor of painting people who don't sign on their dotted line as MAGAs, fascists, racists, homophobes, etc., etc. That's a tired and failed card to play.

I am not one to admire people for their success. There are tons of people who work hard, are very driven, are very brilliant and are able to achieve various measures of success. I admire their hard work, their effort, their drive and their genius, all of them equally, regardless of the level of their success.

I don't put them on pedestals.

In part because pretty much every human who achieves outlier success has benefited from a great deal of good luck along the way. And they rarely, if ever, do it alone. They almost all stood on the shoulders of many others in their lives, who typically go largely unrecognized.

And in part because I know that bad things happen when humans put other humans on pedestals. There are many obvious notable examples throughout history.

I'm much, much more likely to admire people who, with no measurable benefit to themselves, quietly set out to help others in need. I mean, there's always a benefit to that in how it makes us feel, right? A huge benefit, IMO. But it's not exactly measurable, it's pretty intangible.

If Musk retires from his active roles in his companies, and instead spend all his time personally involved in doing good for others with no financial or political benefit to himself, then that's something I would admire. Same with Trump or Biden or any public figure of any kind you could name.

Still no pedestals. Admiration and gratitude is enough.

That's the sort of EV news I like hearing. I've said it a bunch, but IMO, getting way out ahead of public charging demand is how we convince large portions of Americans, who are currently reluctant to give up their ICEVs, to finally do so.

Having public chargers literally everywhere a car can be parked (and with a good working standard like Tesla's) all but eliminates range concerns for pretty much everybody, regardless of their situation.

Then it's just down to improvements in charging time, and those are coming too. And in most cases, the need for faster charging times is reduced by having a surplus of public chargers anyway.

Not sure I agree. Perhaps the majority of the population that does not have at home charging? We rarely drive further than the 280-290 miles of range requiring a recharge outside of our home. I am aware of others who have a similar pattern that use their EV for daily commute to save money on gas and save the planet (ha!) from imminent destruction.

I think there are some who, like me, want longer ranges due to our only use case for the car (in my case, for an SUV to be used on long road trips). But I gotta think most people will be happy enough with 300 miles of real world all weather range as long as there are numerous public chargers absolutely everywhere.

I feel like I’m an extreme example of long range desire and not the typical case here, in terms of how much I hate waiting or stopping.

Looks really nice, I like the satin finish. I’ve been thinking about wrapping my incoming suv with a satin Xpel PPF instead of the usual glossy one.

I whole-heartedly disagree with the author about the whole one pedal thing. I opt for cars with three pedals over two because I want the added driver involvement. For me, in single pedal operation, the loss of control over braking versus drifting would suck. But I’m not seeking simplicity in my driving. I get that many, who see driving as a means of getting from point A to point B, do want simplicity.

Similarly, many look forward to not having to operate the vehicle at all. Not me. Only way I’d allow that is if I’m no longer capable of driving myself for some reason. I enjoy the “work” of driving far too much.
