And I don't think Rev's were good when he bought it.

Company has always had trouble monetizing despite high usage.
Overpaying then killing advertising revenues didn’t seem to work. Funny thing is he could probably IPO today and pay it all off, though that isn’t likely.

He can pay it all off out of personal pocket change. An exaggeration, but not a huge exaggeration. I respect his making the payments regularly though.

Would probably have to sell TSLA stock, and that narrative was a headwind for TSLA stock for awhile.

In other news, Ford announced they are going to slow production of EVs and focus more on hybrids. They are pushing back the production of a next generation EV pickup to be built in Tennessee (was supposed to start next year but now pushed to 2027). Also they canceled plans for a 3 row EV SUV.

If he's gonna keep being CEO of his companies, I think he should at least shed himself of Twitter. Take the loss, stop making a public spectacle of himself, and focus on running the other businesses. Just my opinion.

If Trump wins and Musk is given a position in the government, then he would have to quit his CEO roles to avoid conflict of interest. I don’t think even the Trump administration would that corrupt to allow him to keep his CEO roles and be on the cabinet.

I think Musk is smart enough to avoid that whole scenario. OTOH he bought Twitter which was not so smart.

More then twice as many Hybrids sold by Ford YTD through July. 109K vs 52K.

Though the EV's have grown at a stronger clip yoy. 64% vs 49.2%

It is adding an EV midsized pickup, as well as an EV van.

It was a game changer buying Twitter
Well, yeah, a 50% drop in revenue is game-changing. Increased adherence to government requests for information/interdiction since Musk took over is a lot less game-changing. Increased “censorship” as well.

But hey, at least Musk legitimized porn accounts. I’m personally a big fan of that decision. 😇

I bought two hybrids in the past year. Other than vacations, special outings, and kids sports stuff almost all of our driving is within 50 miles round trip and can go weeks without filling up. I’m at the point where I’m starting to think it will be decades before EVs take over and at the same time if a hybrid with an extended mile battery hits the market good luck to the EV industry

It does look a bit like a rolling dumpster. Must be a trending social media meme ‘cause I was out with a friend yesterday and she mentioned something about a CT and rats or cats and dumpsters she’d just seen online.

I do wonder how much a 100x billionaire cares that he overspent by $25ish billion to buy a company for such altruistic reasons.
Well, if we are to believe it’s always about the money, guessing a little bit at least?🤷‍♂️

Musk has said this over and over since the purchase. This isn’t a new relevation.
I also wonder how much of this is really about free speech, and, given his output since taking over X, how much is about keeping a right leaning platform open.

I know there is cross over in that idea but his freedom fight does seem to be for a specific subset.

it was never a right leaning platform...it was definitely left which censored and suppressed conservative viewpoints...getting balance back and letting the members decide is a huge plus. I would get ridiculous crap from leftists in my feed constantly despite not following them pre Elon.

Musk was never right wing and still holds liberal opinions, its that many others moves so far to the left without any common sense thinking that he is taking a stand. Free speech aint a bad thing. Its losing money but more people are using it than ever. I have no doubt the governments of the world will continue to come after Musk just like they did with the Telegram guy

I don’t get that part.

As @bac2therac and others elsewhere have said numerous times, it’s more about balance or at least letting both sides yell from their proverbial mountain tops (or their parents basements.)

How did this turn into a Twitter thread? Can we avoid getting a good thread about Electric vehicles towed away and stick to the topic in the subject line? @bac2therac start a new thread or take it to the cesspool board, please.

ask your sheep friend why he keeps bringing up Musk and twitter

I'm going to bring this discussion to the Howard prediction thread. How would you like that? This has been a good thread, and it is getting ruined.

Just put whoever you referred to on ignore, and please keep it on topic.

Hybrid, seems like a great option.

The full EV thing, not so much…yet.

If my most recent purchase offered that in the model we wanted we strongly would have considered it. And actually probably would have bought it.

Then why are posters fretting so much about it being a money loser...cannot have it both ways
Would a hybrid or EV truck work for you at this point?

There is one in service, an EV, for the Los Angeles City Fire Department. Initially there were some issues but apparently not EV related.

It’s an engine, not a ladder, the one that puts the water on the fire. The ladder trucks are much bigger and heavier so I don’t think this application is ready for something like this.

It’s not totally EV either in case it’s operating longer than the battery life.

I really have no idea. I have a long ignore list of people who hijack threads, always go "there," etc. You are an exception because you post a lot of good content.

You have any battery powered lawn/garden equipment. Have to say, having the EGO brand weed trimmer, hedge pruner, small tiller, pole saw and small chain saw has been great. My gas powered trimmer crapped out years ago. No longer have to worry about carburetors going bad and maintenance other than changing trimmer line, etc. Batteries have held up well. May not work for someone working all day with the equipment, but for a weekend warrior, works great. May move to a battery powered mower next.

For homeowners yes...for everyday constant use no...not strong enough and would require buying extra batteries..just not worth it

Nj legislators trying to put ban on electric blowers..will likely pass this year

Simply ridiculous and not business friendly. Will the elites pay $1000 instead of $650 for their fall leaf cleanup

People forget about this point.

Letter to the editor in last weeks local paper said leaf blowers are “the worst thing ever!” and suggested going battery powered for everything.

They never ever “turn the page” on things/decisions like this. And the eventual reaction is always the same…”oh, we didn’t consider/think of that. Hmmm.”

Eventually, as technological advances come to head, sure why not.

But we’re not there yet commercially on many levels for the EV front.

I saw that guy's letter and laughed. More than a little over the top. Fact is that electric blowers have a higher pitched whistle/squeal to them. Probably also against the windmills in the ocean. Can't have it both ways. Being rich does not mean you are smart. Most of that wealth in SL is inherited.

URGE TOWN COUNCILS TO BAN GAS LEAF BLOWERS
No torment in hell could be as miserable as the ever-present gas-powered leaf blow- er. The
horrendous, deafening noise from these monstrosities never ceases. The abuse continues even past
6 p.m. These horrible, worthless machines destroy all semblance
of peace and quiet. The constant, booming, buzzing din causes headaches, stress, and acute
anxiety to babies, the middle-aged and the increasingly numerous retirees in our towns.
The nuisance is particularly egregious in view of the prices one pays to live here.
Can’t brooms and rakes whisk away a few scraps? And the clippings are never even picked up! They
are just blown around. Simple leaf bags and baskets attached to lawn-mowers would certainly keep
the town tidy.
Montclair and Maplewood have enacted bans. State Senator Bob Smith is proposing similar relief
state-wide.
Please urge all council members to ban these machines that absolutely destroy our quality of life.
