How is the B1G a national conference, college football is predominantly a Southern sport and the B1G doesn't have any programs located in the South or Southwest? Yes, the B1G spans the east to west distance of the US, but aside from USC and UCLA, the other schools are located in Northern states (I don't consider Maryland the South). I believe the powers that run the B1G realize this glaring absence and will concentrate on adding some programs from the ACC once their GOR ends.
They are coast to coast they have the East west and central time zones. The SEC has the south and a piece of the southwest.
Maybe the Big Ten will add ACC schools but they have options out west that the SEC dosent.
It’s going to be interesting to see how things play out.
I think adding USC and UCLA trumps Texas and Oklahoma though. I’m giving that round to the BIG. Just my opinion.
End of the day we might see two 30 team conferences who knows?

Texas trumps USC, sorry. Football is King in Texas and UT is the King of all of Texas. Yes, USC is big in SoCal, lived there for many years, but there is so much there to do that college football does not dominate like in Texas. UCLA football is an afterthought in SoCal unless they are undefeated. Oklahoma is a much bigger national football presence than UCLA.

Today’s Finebaum Show … may be some paraphrasing here — “What does Rutgers add to the Big Ten? There are more Alabama fans in the New York area than Rutgers fans.” Then he slighted the Rutgers signage at airports.
The Big Ten Network needs a show with a personality. Does the Big Ten Network have a slot for Ray Lucas?
In NJ there may be more fans of Kean U football than the Finebaum Show.

The irony is UT on the whole has more in common with the big ten than the SEC

With UCLA and USC the BIG gets two storied programs and picks up a new market. The second largest market in the country. Along with another time zone to broadcast in. This will add millions to the broadcast rights. .They also bring a rich tradition and history in all their Olympic sports too. Probably the richest in the country. To go along with their AAU status.
Another bonus is that adding them it could open up more expansion in the west too.
In Texas and Oklahoma the SEC gets 2 storied programs. Texas is in a state the SEC already has a presence in ( with Texas A&M). Oklahoma hardly any market at all.Oklahoma is not an AAU school either. Texas is.
Don’t get me wrong, Texas is a great institution they make more money than anyone but they also have a history of “not playing well with others”.
I’d take the Cali schools every time.
Just ask Paul Finebaum. When it was announced they were going to the BIG, he looked like someone took his lunch money.
When you compare programs there is so much more involved than just football.

Texas used to be the undisputed king in the state but they ceded that title with years of missteps. It allowed other programs to rise up as the best in the state didn’t automatically commit to UT anymore. So being king still is a notch or two below the hollowed ground they previously inhabited.

USC will more likely return to their former lofty status than UT.

Just to let you know, not everyone in the SEC gives a rats *** about Finebaum and his love and adoration of all things Alabama. If you ever listen to his show, you might be able to stomach 5-10 minutes of it, at best.
The average IQ of the callers has yet to break 70 after all these years. Don’t worry about what he has to say, it isn’t worth the effort.

Texas endowment $42 billion, USC endowment 8.1 billion. Yes, we pick up the SoCal market, but if we had added Texas we would have picked up the entire state of Texas market. Texas is a growing state, people of wealth are leaving SoCal in droves. UCLA is irrelevant in the discussion, it is like adding Purdue when you already have Indiana. Yes, UCLA basketball was big at one point, but I would ask you to take a look at the actual fans in the seats at Pauley this year when UCLA is very good, shocking. They might sell out the U of A game, but that is because the U of A travels exceptionally well. UCLA is redundant for the SoCal market, it is not a national brand in football, and football is King. Oklahoma is a national football brand.

Agree to disagree.End of the day the BIG can expand west, wait for ACC schools or hold at 16. BIG is all AAU schools ( except Nebraska)
Any way you look at it they are in a better position than the SEC. and making more money.Any which way the SEC goes otdr than North Carolina , Virginia ,and ND. They are diluting their own markets.

Don't disagree B1G has way more potential, my only comment was that to be a true "National" conference you have to have representative programs in the heartland of college football, which is the South.

Mr. Twister self-bumping his "Feinbaum's a dick" thread just to praise and defend Finebaum again!

Just ask the guy on a date already. That love/hate dynamic should be hot for you.

Meanwhile the B1G Network competes with a one hour Minnesota vs.Purdue football replay. The B1G Network is embarrassing.
Finebaum followed the Fickiell interview with an interview of the producer of NetFlix’s Johnny Manziel documentary, followed by a conference realignment discussion with callers about the significance of the new landing spots for Clemson and Florida State, followed by interview with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
The B1G Network plays football game replays that are essentially TV Yule Log broadcasts for Big Ten fans.

Say what you will about the SEC fanbase I’d be willing to bet if one of there all time greats was in the hospital and in desperate need for it’s tan base to give a f$ck and donate to his go fund me it would be maxed out within the day. Phil the thrill is in the hospital in dire straits and most of you have donated squat. Shows how small time this fanbase is. Everyone should be upset about how arguably our best player of all time can’t get the required help from its “die hards”. The fanbase a highly opinionated and not much else.

WRONG…Texas is one of many popular teams in here in texas. A&M is just as popular, wealthy and has a bigger and faster growing alumni base…period. Heck baylor, TCU, Arkansas, LSU, Tech, and OU are huge in this state…the uninformed view that Texas is the only and dominant game in town is just that UNINFORMED. it’s like saying that RU has no following in NY because it is all PSU and ND…just as uninformed.

Sankey had an interview with Finebaum today. Sounds like he and probably others (B10) might want changes in the CFP format. I thought 6-6 could remain but looks like a tweak to 5-7 is also a possibility or even best 12 or 8.

Texas A&M really? Yes, Texas A&M is one of the country's biggest diploma factories, agreed. Texas A&M, University of Phoenix, Strayer University, all one in the same. UT is the flagship university of Texas and one of the great American research institutions.

Your complete understanding of that institution is laughable and shows what an uninformed buffoon you are. More research dollars at A&M than UT Md Anderson or UT…oh and Rutgers, while we are at it…A&M is on par with Texas and it’s network is unmatched in this state. You clearly have no ******* clue what your are spewing. Of course Texas is a top research institution, but your assertion that A&M is just a diploma mill when Texas is almost as big, makes you look Kamala-level stupid.

Texas and Texas A&M rank #1 and #2, respectively, among national public universities in system endowments…

When you go to bed tonight, pray for a brain…

Why did OP feel a need to start this dumb thread?
Exactly. Finebaum is a moron who has no clue about Rutgers and our market. Of course, we've struggled for nearly 10 years, but anyone with half a brain knows that a good RU team that goes to bowls most years delivers this market and a 2006 kind of team becomes a national story even bigger than in 2006.

When I think of Texas A&M, to be honest, I picture endless miles of cows farting causing global warming and a bunch of rednecks in pickup trucks harassing women and minorities, but wow, now you are telling me it is a legitimate university on the par with the world renowned pillar of educational excellence, the great University of Texas, that is hard for me to believe, but I will take your word for it for now anyway.
