Foxtail is a new restaurant in Madison, MS

Great place, HUGE, 2 levels of seating/bars.
Usually an uppity Madisonite crowd, but a great wait staff, great things on the menu, great atmosphere.

We met some friends of ours from AZ there. They flew into town and were searching all the liquor stores for a bottle of Buffalo Trace to gift me at the restaurant.
I didn't realize it was so hard to find right now. About the 3rd or 4th store they went to (after striking out) they bought the last bottle on the shelf.

They walked into the restaurant carrying the Buffalo Trace, the folks at the Foxtail wanted to buy it from my friend. (they were slam out)

I'm honored to have a coveted bottle. My plan is......if somehow we manage to win an SEC football game this fall, I will break the seal and we will celebrate.
That unopened bottle may collect dust until 2026, I'm afraid. Not gonna sell it to the Foxtail bar manager though. He's SOL.

I just pulled it up on google, looks like new construction? Being a Rankin Poor, I can't socialize with you rich folks so i guess I'll have to stick with Black Axes.

Coach McClasky (longtime NWR Baseball Corch) is opening a new place on the Rankin side of the Rez (Backwater something?). Opening date is set for July 4th.

If you’re ever in Eastern WA, you can buy endless bottles of Buffalo Trace for $25 at every grocery store. Eagle rare was my go to and typically had 3-4 bottles for $40. Blantons generally available as well. Stagg, Elmer T Lee, and cheap Weller are tougher. EH Taylor was hit or miss

I need to give the place another try. My first experience it was new and slow. App was great, main dish was forgettable, drinks were great. I ate outside, but when I walked through the place two things stood out: it's huge and it's loud.

It is very loud. Cool place though. It's still new, so it will be interesting to see if they can keep the quality after this period.

I think they would do well to look at some of those sound dampeners that you can hang from the ceiling. They look fine and would make it much more livable inside when it is full.

Come to Houston if you need Buffalo Trace. Every Specs in town has CASES of the stuff for $25/bottle.

Pretty easy to find in Memphis area too. Harder to find the higher end stuff like Weller, Eagle Rare, Colonel Taylor and Blantons.

I knew I shoulda been filling a closet with Eagle Rare when it was easily found all over Central MS for $30 and under a bottle.

This bourbon craze will end, but I may be dead before it does.

Anybody know a bit more of the story on Foxtail?

I see where the chef has two of them in the Chicago area, both opened during COVID-19 era, and now this one.

It's not exactly a great time to be opening restaurants and she's gotten three big ones done in 5 years. What's the funding source??

The owners are still in Chicago. The chef (I think she was the chef) in one of those happened to be a lady from MS the owners liked and trusted, and she convinced them they would do well with one here. So I guess they agreed and worked it out so she could come down here and run this one.

Somebody in that equation has got some personal capital or some restaurant cred with a financial institution to get those three new concepts done in this environment.

Weird they couldn't find Buffalo Trace, It's everywhere in South MS. I never understood the Trace craze, is a decent cheap bourbon is about it IMO.
Touchè. It's fine, but just a staple in my cabinet for others or if I need a mixer. Hard to imagine a world where it's hard to find or costs more than MSRP. Just left the liquor store and we're full of BT...

I of course passed and went with the 25% cheaper and 50% better option available.
