Some fairly significant changes in the first 2 episodes so far. The one that immediately comes to mind is Bronn being named Commander of the City Watch instead of Jacelyn Bywater. Also of note, Gendry figuring out Arya is a girl well before he does in the book. Asha's introduction was a little quick as well, considering Theon's uncle is supposed to meet him on the dock before he ever meets Asha.

The episodes seem to be covering a lot of ground in a hurry. I'm getting a little nervous and wondering if maybe I should've already started A Storm of Swords. Of course, things will probably slow down a little when the battles start. Love what they're doing with Melisandre so far. She's making a strong case to be my favorite of the new characters. I wish they'd get a little deeper into Tyrion's story, though. He's the most complex character of the series and the ultimate schemer. They really need to develop that.

What do you gents think so far?

I'm pretty sure they're going to include some stuff from it this season, especially for Jaime, as he doesn't do anything in the 2nd book.

I didn't think the books ever made clear whether she was actually 17ing Stannis. I thought they should have held out a little on that. Looking forward to Tyrion and his fathers future interactions...will probably be in Episode 12.

i don't think they'll show a whole lot of ASOS this season. might give us a peak at what happens to jaime instead of kinda leaving at the cliffhanger ACOK left off with. kinda like how in season 1 they went ahead and let us know that arya was going to be heading north with a group going to the wall (in the GOT book, the last we see of arya is where yoren takes her and is cutting her hair in the alley). <div>
</div><div>i also don't have problems with some characters being left out of the show. hell, it's confusing and difficult to keep track in the book, i could only imagine how a hard it'd be for the non-readers if they spent time introducing every single minute character. there's simply too many characters and too little time and money for them to spend time on making sure theon talks with his uncle before he talks to asha/yara. just accept the general story will be the same, but there will be characters and scenes that are condensed to streamline the plot. there will be scenes in the show to flesh out the goings on of the non-POV characters (i.e. the renley/loras scene from season 1; the melisandra/stannis sex scene last episode). all these scenes are strongly implied and hinted at in the book by the things the POV characters hear and reveal in their thoughts, but we don't see them. </div><div>
</div><div>i don't think there will be a big problem in bron being named commander of the city watch. the important part is that the city watch is in tyrion's back pocket. if i remember right, they just switch the commander later in the book when tywin comes to town.</div>

I have no idea who is scheming to do what at this point. Everyone is dressed in black leather and is really angry. I'm only paying close attention when the dwarf is in a scene.

davos hears talk of melisandre and stannis sharing chambers. same thing with jon snow following craster to see what he did with the baby boy. later we learn that craster gave the baby boys as sacrifices to the white walkers to leave him alone, just instead of it being discovered through dialog, they actually showed us a scene. it's tv so they'll show things, not just all sit around discussing them.<div>
</div><div>and there's only 10 episodes again.</div><div>
</div><div>1 episode per season is written by GRRM, and that's episode 9, which is supposedly entirely the battle of blackwater. i'd imagine the interchanges between tyrion and tywin won't occur until season 3, as they didn't occur in the books until ASOS. plus i think there would a good season ending involving tyrion that occurs either right at the end of ACOK or the start of ASOS, but before he and tywin start getting after each other.</div><div>
</div><div>also, talk of ASOS being broken up over 2 seasons, which would be pretty awesome, as it's the most packed and crazy book of the series.</div>

well therein lies your problem. <div>
</div><div>tbh, for non-readers, i think you follow best you can for now, then rewatch the whole season back to back to back with a general understanding of the overarching story and then you can pick up on a lot more from the conversations between characters and the foreshadowing and pay attention.</div>

In the books, Stannis doesn't even really like her that much, it is his wife that is a fanatic. I'm also shocked at how hot she is; When I read the books,I pictured a somewhat thick busty woman.

It's confirmed in a ADWD that Melisandre and Stannis have been doing the dirty in one of the Melisandre chapters. Also, the "baby" she gives birth too has a strong resemblence to Stannis.

I'm cool with most of the changes so far. I think the actor playing Rhakharo asked to be written out of the show. No big deal since the blood riders kind of take a back seat in later books.

My biggest complaint up to this point in the season is why did they get such a fugly actor for Theon's sister. She should be way hotter.

They also change Asha's name to Yara. They apparently didn't want people to get confused with Asha and Osha (the chick that hangs out with Rickon)<div>

I definitely agree they have to streamline some things and actually show us some stuff since it's tv. And I don't think there will be a big problem with Bronn being the new commander of the Gold Cloaks, either, especially considering where his story is headed in light of the Battle of Kings Landing. Just found it interesting more than a problem. And you're right about Jaime not doing anything this season. He's only mentioned in passing until the end of the book.

As a striking contrast to Stannis's ugly *** wife. Also in the books, they eventually made it very clear they were banging.

I had hoped there would be more than 10 episodes...at least 12.

I guess the days of 21 - 24 new episodes a season are long gone...at least on premium channels.

yeah, 10-13 is about what you can expect from the premium channels and the cable channels (fx, amc). it allows the quality to stay high. condenses the budget over less episodes, thus allowing each episode to be higher quality. and it allows for the networks to land higher profile actors because it's easier to commit to only a couple months to shoot 10-13 episodes instead of committing 20+ episodes, essentially eating up 9 months of your year and really hurting the actors' movie opportunities.

..it takes them a year to output 10 episodes. that if it's upped, there will be a longer wait between seasons.

it was expected that an announcement on season 3 would be made last week, especially after the good ratings. yet still nothing. speculation is that they are negotiating for seasons beyond next, which would necessitate an extended contract for the producers (who were signed for 3).

i would think if they split up book 3 to two seasons, thatHBO would want a short wait for that second run. maybe 8 and 8, with a season of something else in between (True Blood?), so a 3 month wait instead of a year.

sounds like they are trying to mesh more eps or seasons with HBOs scheduling plans, and haven't figured it out yet.

... to really know what the heck is going on w/o having first read the books. Anyone else agree?<div>
</div><div>I guess there could be some general understanding of what's going on. But to really know, there is so much in the books that's not in the HBO series.</div>
