Phil because he got out from behind the drums. I don't know a bunch about Genesis and if Phil did any lead vocals while Peter was with the band. He definitely came front and center after Peter left.

Phil Collins although Peter Gabriel is an icon.

I saw Genesis @ The Omni 86 or 87. That show was incredible. They did several Collins' and Mike & The Mechanics songs.

Everyone benefitted, especially the fans. Both Genesis & Collins put out a lot of much better music after the split than before. I’d say Collins though. He was just the drummer & would have probably never sang if Gabriel had stayed. Interestingly, while there were disagreements, they all remained friends. Gabriel recommended Collins to replace him.

I recently listened to the entire Genesis catalog while at work (background while I code), and I can honestly say the Phil Collins version of Genesis was far superior to the Peter Gabriel version.

From a solo perspective, they both have some great tunes. I personally liked Peter Gabriel's output more than Phil Collins', but 'In the Air Tonight' is probably my favorite song by either artist.

Agree. As good as Genesis became with Phil Collins, I think Peter Gabriel solo career is even better.

This.

It was beneficial to everyone because it got Collins on the mic and put Genesis on a different direction that was more successful commercially and ultimately Phil Collins solo career. And it gave Peter Gabriel the freedom to make the music he wanted which I agree is fantastic as well.

You may prefer one over the other but Phil had the better career. Thats not debatable, although PG was a visionary.

I prefer Mike & the Mechanics to them both

I like all of them, but Mike & the Mechanics is the only one thar has a song that gets to me emotionally.

The last verse of The Living Years gets me every single time.
This poll is really answered by which song is greater: In The Air Tonight versus In Your Eyes.

I dont think those are even the best songs they have.

Another Day in Paradise vs Sledgehammer or Red Rain ( although Red Rain is not nearly as widely known.)

This is badass

That whole concert in Berlin is available to watch on YouTube. He did a world tour that year and also came to Birmingham. Unfortunately I was 7 years old at the time. I wish I could get in a time machine and go to that show. I love how prominent the drums are in Phil Collins songs. He is one of the great drummers of all time.
