The last assault weapons ban (now expired) passed the House by two votes when there was a huge Democratic majority. And then many of the Dems that voted for it lost a few months later in the largest Republican landslide in a generation. I don't think you need to worry.

The president's list of 23 executive orders was released a little while ago and it had no teeth at all. Many were expecting the worst, but I think he saw the writing on the wall. He yammered about the voters making it happen which means they want to take control of the house in two years before they do anything. Hopefully, supply and prices will start to come back toward normal before too long. I'm glad I didn't panic buy anything.

Al, I don't like no 16 at all. Have this feeling that gun owners who answer yes to Drs question about guns will automatically be paying more for Obamacare.

Precisely. I went to the gun show in jackhole and left without buying ****. The panic pricing is beyond ridiculous. 400% mark-up on most magazines. And don't get me started on the ammo pricing. Crazy.

Outside of enforcing current law, I don't think there is much the Pres. can do.

Were folks really getting amped up about the President banning firearms?

I have been saying for years gun control is a loser issue. I still stand by that. Democrats learned that it's an issue that can only cost them votes, so they largely ignore it. They are against passing any kind of meaningful restrictions since that will get them voted out in a hurry and they won't pass any largely powerless restrictions since they will still be perceived as soft on gun control. Look for a lot of yammering until the squirrel that is the American public finds its next shiny gum wrapper and moves on.

The Tea Party is already angry about the tax deal and is planning primary challenges against Republicans who voted for it. There is no way a bill that pisses off the NRA gets out of the House in this climate.

If the Doc were to AXE me if I have guns in the home...I shall ask him if he shaves his balls. Neither relevant to the issue at hand. Now shut up and give me my scrip.

There is a bill circulating the Mississippi Capitol right now that was drafted by Mississippi for Liberty and Rep. Chris Brown from Lowndes/ Monroe district. The bill is similar to that of Texas and Wyoming in that is prohibits the federal government from regulating guns or ammo manufacturers in the state of MS through the Commerce Clause (which they use to regulate everything).

"An act to exempt from federal regulation under the commerce clause of the Constitution of United States a firearm, a firearm assessory or ammunition manufactured and retained in Mississippi; and for related purposes."

Call your reps and have them get behind this.

I've got quite a few of these things and didn't pay a dime.

However, I, uh,**ahem**, "borrowed" them from my old National Guard unit.

It gets swept under the rug by the media. Just like everything else this clown squad tries to do. Obama would take every single gun away from every single american if he could. These people want to control you!

How's it not worth anything? The governor even said today they would block federal regulations. I'd say if the state of MS refuses to enforce a federal law it deems unconstitutional, that's a huge deal.

In the meantime, no one's looking into the Fast and Furious Scandal....

...where Mexican Drug Dealers were sold weapons by the Obama Administration, and those weapons were used to kill hundreds of Mexican citizens and a U.S. Border Patrol agent....or the Benghazi Murder scandal, where the Obama Administration repeatedly ignored the calls for increased security and allowed Muslim terrorists to murder our U.S. Ambassador and 3 other people.

Why is everybody getting worked up about "gun control"? The GOP has proven themselves to be a bunch of spineless, cowardly pussies who want to lick the sweat off Obama's balls. This is all Kabuki Theater, to get our minds off our higher taxes, Gubmint healthcare, and essentially turning our country into a 3rd World ********, like where Obama's alleged "father" was born.

Remember James Merideth? Ross Barnett, who was much smarter than Bryant, said

How's it not worth anything? The governor even said today they would block federal regulations. I'd say if the state of MS refuses to enforce a federal law it deems unconstitutional, that's a huge deal.

Mississippi would pass laws against this also. The Feds will alway overrule the states, like it or not

There's this little clause in the Constitution found at Article VI, Section 2:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

Phil Bryant does not have the authority to unilaterally declare federal laws or promulgations unconstitutional. Separation of powers and all. He's right to question Obama's authority to trample on the second amendment. But the fix is not passing a worthless state law. The fix is a suit in federal court by a person who has standing to bring the suit.

Kurt I'm a moderate with some left leanings

the crowd that thinks he's a good President...

/sorry mods, lock it
But anybody that think he's done a "good" job a president is a delusional fan like the ones that think he's a communist. As far as the Muslim thing, I don't give a **** if the president is a satanist as long as unemployment is under 3%, crime is low, kids can get an education and healthcare, we all maintain our liberties, and this country is secure.

I'm not suggesting Bryant has the authority to do anything unilaterally. He can get behind bills that essentially "nullify" federal law that is unconstitutional. The Sepremacy Clause you reference does not mean the feds can pass any law they want and the states have to deal with it "like it or not". The Federal government cannot exercise any power not deemed to it by the Constitution. The Constitution is a document that limits federal power, not states power. The 2nd amendment is clear, it shall not be infringed upon. The Supremecy Clause is only applicable when the federal law is within the confines of the Constitution. James Iredell, at the First North Carolina convention: “When Congress passes a law consistent with the Constitution, it is to be binding on the people. If Congress, under pretense of executing one power, should, in fact, usurp another, they will violate the Constitution.” Alexander Hamilton, at New York’s convention: “I maintain that the word supreme imports no more than this — that the Constitution, and laws made in pursuance thereof, cannot be controlled or defeated by any other law. The acts of the United States, therefore, will be absolutely obligatory as to all the proper objects and powers of the general government…but the laws of Congress are restricted to a certain sphere (Constitution), and when they depart from this sphere, they are no longer supreme or binding”.

The Meredith/Barnett situation is different. James Meredith wasn't admitted to Ole Miss because he was black. The Supreme Court ruled that Meredith had the right to be admitted because he met admission requirements. Barnett tried to get the State Legislature to change the requirements for admission that would have blocked Meredith. Thank goodness he had no traction with this because it probably would have worked but the pressure was too high on Barnett at that point and he backed off.
