OT: Golf Knickers

I just saw a commercial for a website that sells these and I feel like I saw something I shouldn't have seen. Do grown men or anyone for that matter actually wear these on the golf course? I don't think I would be able to talk to a guy wearing these or even look at him. It could be my fear of clowns but I think it goes deeper. If I was managing a golf course, anyone wearing these would not get a tee time. Granted I am not a golfer, maybe a round a year, but has anyone actually seen people wearing these out on the course? If so just curious to know what the reaction is.

I have a friend who does this at least once a year with his brother and a couple of buddies. This is him and his son from last year....the son is a golf pro.

Meh, I wouldn't mind it except for the argyle. Maybe if Rickie Fowler took it on with his color palette.

I think its totally outdated in todays golf.. But the one guy who always repped it right was the late Payne Stewart..

I have some. They are fun. They double as my Halloween costume too.

I dig them. Why not. I suck at golf, so I dont really like drawing attention to myself, but if you are good enough to pull them off I say its all in good fun. The OP's picture looks terrible because of the matching argyle sweaters...that is just a costume. If you wear them, you have to go with more of a Payne Stewart look.

But do they come it "salmon" red/pink to match our RU unis? As I recall, at one point, Payne Stewart had some sort of contract with the NFL whereby he'd wear an "old timey" cap-and-kicker outfit to correspond to an NFL team based nearest to the golf venue.

Anyway, thank our Dutch colonists for those knickers. The "knickerbockers" wore them for practical purposes, mostly by children, as the pants were harder to outgrow. But the surge in popularity with men came after WWI, as they were worn by British cavalry officers during the Great War, for added mobility and such. The "look" caught on, post-war, mostly for sporting gents in the field and on the links--a bit of "dash," you see.

Every once in a while, I'll spot a few golfers wearing them around Pinehurst courses. The look "seems" to work for older gents, say 60+. Younger guys just look silly in them. Make that "even sillier" in them.

When recently playing #2, my caddie told me there is a large group of members that wears them every week in honor of Payne.

I saw the word knickers and thought it was gonna be about something like these... disappointing OP... :flush:
