Why are liberals so unhappy relative to conservatives? I know that liberals have always been more depressed / anxious than conservatives, and so they will naturally be less happy, but what are the most prominent reasons outside of some inherited depression / anxiety?

You would have to share your data source, we would have to scrutinize the methods of the studies, and decide where the demarcation is between "liberal" and "conservative". When given two choices on a ballot people have to select black or white, but people aren't black or white, and they change throughout their lifetimes. I do know that white men in Wyoming between the ages of 35-60 have the highest suicide rates. I assume men in the reddist state in the union who are in the peak age of conservatism aren't exactly liberal.
I could make a stretch that "progressive" people by nature are more dissatisfied with whatever is going on. The founding father's would have been "progressive", as would have been our immigrant ancestors because they yearned for an end to the conservatism of the past and new beginning or or new future and they had the ambition to risk everything for it.

As far as liberal men are concerned, look at their choices for liberal women. Good grief... the pink, green and blue hair, the nose rings, lack of personal hygiene and the fashion style of a dying 90-year old lady.

It's not opinion, there are studies. It's a question based on actual results. Nothing emotional about it, except that your response certainly isn't reflective of the question, for some reason.

I am not disagreeing with you but the study and semantics "might" be misleading. 1st of all, you can't use surveys to ascertain whether a person is liberal or conservative...basically only political people would say they were clearly one or the other ALL THE TIME. Politically active liberal woman would openly state they are unhappy, politically active conservative woman would be more unlikely to say they are unhappy. Whatever measure of happiness has to be a blind measurement because people report such things dishonestly. This is why I pointed out the extreme suicide levels of men in Wyoming, you can't fake shooting yourself in the head.
By the way, I can buy that liberal woman might be less happy, it is just almost impossible to study it in an accurate way because the scientific studies require controls that just cannot be managed between such different groups of people and such vacuous definitions such as "liberal" or "conservative". Even a personality test that measures their political leanings can be skewed by how the questions are worded, or the question order, etc.

This response highlights one possible reason as liberals have a tendency to have higher levels of education and are creative thinkers which has a double edged sword or higher levels of depression.
Reading the rest of the responses in this thread have solidified the higher education assumption. Another reason could be the liberal states have higher general income and pay more to the federal government than they receive in return. So, they are probably pissed that they have to carry the red states outside of Texas and Florida.
And, ultimately if you look at pretty much any reputable study, the more liberal the state, the happier the population. The power of the right is keeping their constituents pissed. Keep the masses angry about the 10-20 trans athletes and they will overlook prices, pedophilia and pretty much everything else.

I was friends with a girl who used to only bang young guys...and she said "They are young, dumb and full of ***, so they are easy to convince that they are happy"
Anyway...we broke up and I read a book...Trust me, I was happier when I did not know ****.
Based on a quick search, those with higher levels of education appear to have reduced rates of depression, while artists and writers appear to have high rates.

You know, I am not sure if you are trolling or not. If you are this may be one of the most accurate questions I have ever seen on here.

2. I have both unhappy conservative family members and also liberal. So I know this subject well so I am going to try and answer it.
3. It depends if there is a Democrat or Republican in office.
With that said here is what I think.
Empathy, Liberals have more empathy. With that they think they need to be actively involved in solving other peoples problems. Where as conservative folks thinks about themselves and how they can create the best life for them and their families.
Anyone that gets their happiness based off who is in office is a total nut.
The happiest people I know are born again christians, and married. I'll use my dad as an example, who's going downhill faster than a freight train without brakes. But you aint never met anybody so darn happy in your whole life... And it's been that way his whole life , no matter what the situation. Pretty much describes my whole family , including my mom now that I think about it... Who, while laying with her literally on her deathbed , was talking about how much she wants to eat another pork tenderloin samich , so she sent me up to the bowling alley to go get 1 for each of us... man did she enjoy that pork tenderloin. Happy people rule.
I don't disagree, but isn't that more of a factor rather than a result? Do you not think that there is a strong correlation? That's not to suggest that if someone is doing something they think is "right," that it is necessarily objectively a net good, but, wouldn't genuinely thinking that they are doing the right thing mean a higher lever of happiness to that person?
