Such a weird holiday. Even the people who hired him thought he was too extreme and he died broke and in prison for his actions.

He was right that the world was round, but that was well known to most sailors long before his voyage.

Even much debate that he really was not even from Italy at that point in his life.

What’s Juneteenth then , last place?
what does that have to do with celebrating Columbus Day? We can talk if I ever post happy Juneteenth day. Looking forward to Veterans Day, Service to our country is a great thing. Oh and of course Halloween can’t forget that.

I take it he thought you might be African American so figured he's try to throw in a dig.

we need Veterans, German, and Italian heritage months

in reality, we need for people stop thinking as anything other than , 'I'm American'. way too much division and it's only getting worse. Teddy R got it right

so- you are not even bothering to hide your prejudice...And we know why you are so strongly posting mult times how much you enjoyed CD...It isn't that you really did but you just want to dig at indigenous people of the USA and Caribbean Islands. POS
I honestly don't think it's that, it's the whole junetenth bs. it's a ridiculous attempt at changing the history and narrative. It's akin to trying to change AD/BC. "The biggest bigotry we are seeing is from the left and few want to call it out.

I personally think we ought to have a civil rights day/week/month on it's own but juneteeth, black heritage month, women's month etc etc is all bs. does nothing but divide

to the poster I responded to- he posted with the full intent of prejudice.

Your response is not so much prejudice driven, seems more like a "getting tired of it" lol
In response though, I do think Juneteenth is fair enough to celebrate or acknowledge. As is MLK day.

In the "getting tired of it" mode- one of the things that I have noticed that is starting to get to me. I used to attend a large number of business events each year in the tech field. But over the past few years- almost all of them have now change to "women in tech" events. To the point that I feel I have to ask if I am allowed to attend. lol
Columbus Day though - I get it, it is a great fun day that has become less about Columbus and more about Italian Heritage. Much like St. Patricks has nothing to do with St. Patrick and all about Irish heritage.
But as we learn more about this despicable human, it may become time to find some other "great" Italian to celebrate.

LMFAO

No prejudice from me.
It’s a Happy Columbus Day thread.

But lots of prejudice against an Italian legend and it’s clear that didn’t bother you.
We know why.

Quit clowning yourself bruh , you’re a joke

juneteenth isn't about acknowledging black americans contributions, its' politically driven and MLK would be appalled at what is going on today. it's all divisive.

I like the holidays that bring us together, commemorate our heritage (all of it) and focus on unifying us

we absolutely should have a civil rights month, a veterans month and all the rest is just typical holiday flair. We do not need black history month, women's month, hispanic month, etc etc, it's all political. Keep it simple, on point, impactful etc..

the message in all of this should be the melting pot coming together and look at what we've accomplished instead of look at what you did to me.

anyway, this is too political for the fb board so I'll back out here. I respect other's opinions on the matter even if I don't agree (fkers! lol)

all we have now is just more division.

He is simply responding to the fact that the Vikings and the Polynesians both landed in North America centuries before Columbus. Hence the 3rd place reference
the evidence of those two is still suspect no? what we do have, verifiable, is chinese anchors off of cali coast that date back to pre columbus

I don't recall any record, documented and validated, of viking or polynesians. could be wrong.

i love history, it's fascinating

Ok. True or not, It was rude what he did.
So say I’m rude or continue to celebrate and explain his greatness as an explorer. As I was taught, it was meant to celebrate the discovery of the Americas. I was just pointing out the fact that two other groups discovered the Americas before him.

i dont agree with renaming like some have done fyi, but the facts are the facts.

Viking artifacts have been found in northeast Canada. Celebrating Columbus is silly, though, especially when someone like Abraham Lincoln has to share a holiday. Nobody cares about Columbus.

Can you clarify? Sounds like it might be a slight towards Italian Americans on a day they take pride in.
Oh jeez, no slight, The vikings and Indigenous people were here first. Columbus day was always taught as celebrating his discovery of the americas and not his heritage…pleaase how stupid can one be?

I'm stupid for asking for clarification? That's a pleasant policy on your part.

And yeah, what you said is kinda ****** to a bunch of folks who take pride in his history and/or mythology.

For the record I am ZERO percent Italian.

ETA: I'll look forward to your historic clarifications on other race and religion based Holidays. I sure hope you don't let me down on Christmas or Kwanzaa or others.

oh the faux outrage…………your clarification request with accusation. Throwing in the two new holidays, hope people enjoy celebrating them as well!

you do realize its not a race based holiday, it is the anniversary of the claimed discovery, which it was not.
