Your logic is so faulty here
News flash..... Canada since recorded history has experienced on average over 6,000 forest fires a year. How you came to your conclusion is simply mindboggling. There's also a forest fire in Jackson as we speak, should we chalk that up to your misguided agenda as well?
It was explained to you in another thread that on average 140,000 hectares in Canada burn in May… they’re at 2.7 million or roughly 20x the norm.
Yes, changing precipitation patterns are associated with climate change so an early June fire may have a causal link with climate change.
I’d be shocked. I could see outside recess being limited or cancelled though. Will schools be closed tomorrow
Smoke is probably the worst in Metuchen.Little disappointed there isn't four paragraphs from RU#s in here with a meteorological / forestry thesis highlighted by couple self quotes from 2017 where he warned us this was inevitable in 2023.
Smoke is probably the worst in Metuchen.
Actually this is an anomalous event for the US. It’s extremely rare for smoke densities this high to cover this amount of area. Out west you only experience this is you are directly downstream from a fire and certain topographic features keep it bottled in specific areas. My AQI is 234 which is higher than most of the areas directly adjacent to the actual fires. No offense and I feel your pain, but this is what we live with out west almost every year.
Just stop - ever time we have any kind of weird issue with the nature you come out and blame "Climate Change" (of course that name allows you to claim anything). Maybe there are just some forest fires and a wind coming from the north: RelaxTo be clear, denying rapidly accelerated climate change at this point is silly. It's beneath and beyond silly. The average sea surface temps in the North Atlantic have risen 1 degree Celsius since 1980. It may not sound like a lot, but that's the average - there are higher seasonal spike, winters are warmer in the Atlantic than at any time in recorded history and the Arctic Ocean ice pack is very rapidly becoming a thing of the past - and the rate of temperature rise is increasing. This definitely will impact our climate.
BUT... You are correct, forest fires are quite normal in Canada and to say this particular event is climate change-driven is a reach, at best.

I swear a decent percentage of the people on this board (the world maybe?) simply have 3rd grade reading comprehension abilities or maybe they actually just read half a sentence and think they've read the whole thing. And if they didn't post about it, it would at least not be publicly embarrassing, but to then post complete nonsense in reply removes all doubt about that person's moron status. You're an idiot.
Try actually reading what I wrote, ya f*ckin' moron.

It's goddamn smoky out there. Seemed like one minute it was just a little hazy and then the winds picked up and it went to full on BBQ out there. Was outside in it for several hours - wild looking sunset too, almost as if we were in a partial eclipse. Code Orange.Little disappointed there isn't four paragraphs from RU#s in here with a meteorological / forestry thesis highlighted by couple self quotes from 2017 where he warned us this was inevitable in 2023.
It's Quebec. The Jackson fire is only 50 acres, while the huge low in New England has been funneling winds and smoke towards our area all day from where massive fires (nearly 700,000 acres) are burning in Quebec and this will continue into tomorrow.I don't know if it's the Jackson or Canada fire but over the past couple hours it's gone from nothing to a really strong smoke smell. Being the wind at the Sea Girt station is out of the WNW I'm guessing Jackson is more a bit more likely.
He would have been emphatic that the smoke would blow west, only to ignore and deny he ever said that once it went east.Little disappointed there isn't four paragraphs from RU#s in here with a meteorological / forestry thesis highlighted by couple self quotes from 2017 where he warned us this was inevitable in 2023.
Said like someone who has no ****ing clue how the atmosphere worksKeep your heads in the sand deniers. At least you'll avoid the smoke.
News flash--the GD planet is burning & drying up for the reasons I posted. Have a good night all.
ThanksFairly large forest fire in Jackson, which should grow to 100 acres.
@tom1944 - hope you are OK and out of harm's way. Near the Glory Market.
We got the double whammy of smoke last night. Had to close all the windows and turn up the AC. Saw this morning they already have it under control.I don't know if it's the Jackson or Canada fire but over the past couple hours it's gone from nothing to a really strong smoke smell. Yeah. Still have a smoke smell but nowhere near as bad as last night. We got the double whammy of smoke last night. Had to close all the windows and turn up the AC. Saw this morning they already have it under control.
Wait.... Is it drying up or are we underwater in 10 years? How much $ do I have to give all you geniuses to save me? I can't keep up.Keep your heads in the sand deniers. At least you'll avoid the smoke.

Should I change my plan to move up to coastal Martha's Vineyard to escape the rising sea level with the Obamas? Heard covid can't live in the air up there and I can have huge tent parties during pandemics too.
Let me know so I can cancel the moving van if the latest existential threat has changed again.
The hilarious thing is that most crunchy people would literally die in actual nature without all modern conveniences. Kids today(including my own) would hang themselves with no Wi-Fi.
Go outside and rub some sun on your face. Enjoy life and please stop trying to save me. I don't think I can survive all you helpers.
It's even extraterrestrial! Are near miss asteroids the result of global warming? CNN isn't sure.
Wow, you had to dig deep for that one
and it's pretty obvious to me the CNN interviewer's question was tongue-in-cheek.
True
I disagree
That was during my two years at WVU. They had to turn the light on at Mountaineer Field for a noon game vs. Virginia Tech. For the weather nuts out there my older brother reminded me of Nov 87 wildfires from West Virginia. He said it was worse than this. I don't remember...

You guys are doing it wrong, or it must be a vacuum chamber between koleszar and the ocean over here. Not a whiff of anything. Our fire dept was dispatched to go to Jackson last evening, but then canceled. Forest fires are hard work.Yeah. Still have a smoke smell but nowhere near as bad as last night.
That doesn't look like it's from the same vantage point?![]()
A bit smokey last night yeh? Two shots from my place, one from the Spring with two Navy Hawkeye E-2 coming down the river.
Supposed to get worse again this afternoon into this evening.Yeah. Still have a smoke smell but nowhere near as bad as last night.

One was 29th floor (clear day, directly above front door) the other was building entrance. (Smokey)That doesn't look like it's from the same vantage point?
well, clearly, the CNN host was clueless.. but at a minimum, it was an attempt to get Bill Nye to link the asteroid to climate change if there were any way for him to do so.. or at least comment about climate change while he spoke about the asteroid.and it's pretty obvious to me the CNN interviewer's question was tongue-in-cheek.
Sounds good to me. I just regurgitated what Dan Zarrow said during the weather on 101.5 this morning.According to weather.com wind will be shifting this afternoon which should make it better.
Heard stories of people who rarely use an inhaler having to go it several times already today. sightings of people who work outdoors wearing serious respirators... smart people.Allergies are terrible today after being outside too long yesterday. Hope everyone else is doing better than I am.
