I'm interested in brewing my own beer just for the fun of it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good starter kit? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It's a lot of fun to watch that airlock bubble

Try to get a good capping system; that can be some work. You'll love the process and the result. Can't advise on where to buy as I haven't made any beer for several years. I'm about to get back into it though. Been saving bottles.

Great deal to start you out

This would be my starting point. Buy two of these buckets that are on sale: http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/79014/home-depot-5gallon-homer-orange-buckets-1-for-2.50-or-3-for.

Next, go to Alabrew in Birmingham and ask them what to do next. I've brewed up 5 batches in the last year and it's really not too bad. You'll need a 5 gallon pot to brew (or smaller, but the brewing ingredients typically come in 5-gallon increments). Those are the three big things you'll need. I would just go to Alabrew or a similar store for your next step. I can also tell you that my best beer brewer so far (and it's not even close) is the Mississippi Red Ale from Alabrew. It's only about $25 for the ingredients.

Good luck.

I think Northern Brewer has a better (i.e., more complete) starter kit. Their DVD is fun to watch and very helpful. Also, the kit is a bit cheaper than Midwest, but I don't know where you will have it shipped to.

Check out a homebrew forum, like Homebrew Talk, and do a good bit of reading before starting. Purchase an extract kit and follow the instructions.
