Did the Trump enthusiast on this board want to see him cash in on his promises to be authoritarian?
Best I can tell:
Best I can tell:
- He's calling for the end of media outlets he doesn't like (state-controlled media has a pretty bad track record and is a Russia/China/North Korea thing; the exact people he praised pre-election)
- He is disregarding our constitution and laws, behaving like a dictator from day one, just like he said he would
- He is rapidly advancing the Project 2025 agenda which includes putting Trump loyalists in all positions of national power after vetting (at a minimum shares strong characteristics with Nazi Germany - no surprises as his loyalists formed this organization and he has praised Hitler and used Hitler's exact words in his pre-election speeches). At a minimum, there are some disturbing similarities:
- Both Trump and Hitler use/used populist rhetoric to appeal to the frustrations and fears of the masses. They positioned themselves as outsiders who could challenge the status quo and restore their nations to greatness.
- Both emphasize/emphasized strong nationalist sentiments. Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again” echoed themes of national pride and reclaiming past glory, similar to Hitler’s vision of a pure German state.
- Both rely/relied heavily on their personal charisma and ability to connect with large audiences through powerful speeches and rallies.
- Both Trump and Hitler identify/identified specific groups as scapegoats for their countries' problems. Trump often targeted immigrants and Muslims, while Hitler focused on Jews, communists, and other minorities.
- Both leaders are/were adept at using media to their advantage. Trump leveraged social media platforms like Twitter, while Hitler used propaganda extensively to spread his ideology.
- He has decided that the US should be imperialistic and rants about random takeovers of wild places worldwide (Canada/Greenland/Mexico/Gaza/Panama Canal).
- He has basically put a South African immigrant in charge of the federal government who is allowed to act with impunity, disregarding the law and the constitution (I will concede that Trump was right on one point, these immigrants are truly dangerous). Flip the script and imagine Biden immediately installing George Soros. MAGA's imagined "deep state" is being built right in plain view.
- Perhaps saddest of all is that he has convinced a fair number of Americans that xenophobia, vengefulness, hatefulness, and cruelty are all justifiable means to get what you want. Meanwhile he is in the process of making sure that we don't have any mechanisms in place that would help the "least of these" worldwide and I'm probably saddest about the fact that he has made it OK to disparage and hate anyone you don't agree with.
