OT: Interesting graphic on the economy

The CPI just came in at 2.7% for November. That was less than analysts target. Real estate prices are cooling and gas prices are cratering. Currently the national average for a gallon of 87 octane is $2.90. That's actually pretty incredible compared to how high everything else is gone.
Oil prices are about to be at the point where some US oil production will shut down.

Oh look, the 'we need more in the trades and away from colleges' argument that inevitably comes up.
I mean but we kinda do need those jobs and there’s a massive hole right now with no one young taking those trades up. We have a family friend who is an electrician at Memphis International Airport who is ready to retire but they are on their knees begging him and his coworkers to stay because they can’t find people to fill the positions. It’s a legit issue.

I have a really good job, easy, no pressure, no labor, I make six figures. I get 20 hours of PTO each month. I can save and cumulate. They take really good care of their employees. It's a 20-billion-dollar company with an Open-door policy. If the door is open, no matter who, you can walk up, knock and go in and visit. Even the CEO. Benefits after benefits. I also have a define benefit plan and a define contribution plan. I am one lucky SOB. But I have to do the job. :)

What the hell does that mean in the context of posting a visual capitalist graph? I realize that MAGAs don't like facts, but it's pretty well established that they aren't conservatives, so what exactly do you mean in the context of that post?

My reply had nothing to do with you post.
I think most of your post are irrelevant.
The reason i think most of your posts are irrelevant is b/c it think you are pretty dishonest.
The reason i think you are dishonest is b/c you claim to be a former staunch conservative!!

In Mississippi, how can one tell when we're in a recession ? I've been through several and never could tell the difference . LOL
There's something to be said for the saying (maybe from Reagan) that "a recession is when your neighbor loses their job, a depression is when you lose your job". WOrkers that lose their jobs obviousy get hammered by recessions, but for a lot of workers, if they are not heavy on incentive pay, a recession doesn't cost them anything except maybe some worry and a temporary dip in the 401k. The great recession was great for W2 workers that didn't lose their jobs. Everything, particularly real estate, was on sale. If you want to enjoy discretionary spending and/or make major purchases, recessions are great times to do it if you have the money and job stability. We bought a car for under 60% of MSRP during the great recession. When we had basically an oil and gas recession back in maybe 2015/2016 time frame, it wasn't as pronounced, but there were deals to be had. We took a dirt cheap vacation or two in that time frame. Not sure if that was driven by the US slowdown but got deals I haven't seen since outside of COVID. No comfort for the people that do lose their jobs, but does make it much easier to bear any slow down or pause in raises and drop in 401ks.

I agree it’s an issue- demand growth is expected to be double the overall job growth average for the next decade and current employment is aging.

But the comment wasn’t a solution to the post it quoted and responded to.

Additionally, it is a false choice to portray this as ‘get a worthless college degree or make money as an electrician’.
You can do both and there is benefit in doing both.

It's weird though that you don't see pay go up more. White collar professionals don't seem to have a problem raising their rates faster than inflation. Hell, even for professionals where there is a glut of supply, like lawyers, the winners still manage to raise rates faster than inflation consistently. I guess using more and more illegal labor, particularly for residential and small commercial has helped tamp wages down, but I hear people complain about getting electricians or other skilled or semi-skilled trades workers but if they can't find somebody, they seem to just work their existing workers harder rather than raise pay.

Exactly what is a MAGA? I’ve really enjoyed this thread and the graph you shared that started it . I remember fondly how you posted similar things regarding Inflation under the previous administration

Inflation is only bad when it’s opposite the party of your choice.
