Been doing some dirt work on slopes around the house and want to get some sod on it before the fall. Is it too late in the year to put it down? If not, how much time do I have before I need to wait until the spring?

Put a low nitrogen, high P & K blend fertilize on it to speed up the rooting and consistent but not too much h20 in the morning (cooler nights w/ h20 and fertilize will cause a fungus amongus). Centipede doesn't like much N ever but this time of year you are more interested in getting it rooted in than top growth. Put some sod staples in every other row if that slope is steep to help keep it in place. Remember the rule of thumb about centipede, "sleep, creep, leap" First year it sleeps, doesn't do a whole lot, 2nd yr it starts spreading around, 3rd year its ready to take off.

We (Baton Rouge area) put centipede down last year in October, the sod was already dormant, and had no problems at all. Popped up green in spring and took off running...
