It’s not just a NCAA issue, it’s a legal issue so they’d probably be treated the same.
The University of Tulsa and Sam Houston State University would face severe penalties imposed by the NCAA.
Unfortunately I think this will be the tip of the iceberg. Pretty soon some player will be caught betting against his team and manipulating the outcome through his actions on the field or court. Just a matter of time.
This was probably uncovered from a geolocation database search of bets placed on mobile apps. even if the account wasn’t in the player’s name, bets were likely placed at the Iowa State football facilty, which sets off red flags, if not when they were made, then when they are searched for (hence 2021 bets coming to light right now).
There was a photo of gaming control hq in Atlantic City, and the guy had a real time map of all bets on NJ apps placed in New Jersey…..and those attempted outside the borders.

The only way that kind of thing gets caught is if the betting is through regulated markets. There are companies that watch for red flag bets like US Integrity, which is who flagged the bets involved in the Alabama baseball scandal.

If the bets were made via offshore markets, it might have been a different story.
Is this moving the needle on the National conversation about Iowa St or is it because it is Iowa no one gives a rat's @$$ and are going back to Rutgers spending?

Realignment has pushed everything else to the back burner. I think it’s a fairly big story, especially betting on your own team and in at least one case against your own team.
Is this something isolated to the state of Iowa or is this stuff going on other places too, that’s the question. I find that hard to believe myself but it doesn’t meant other things will be uncovered.
