haha awesome. Better than the Superintendent of Jackson (who makes $300K, btw) getting hired while being investigated for fraud at his former school district in Tennessee.

I really

like Jackson, but the city will never get to where it should be with their government. It doesn't help that the people putting the leaders in place are morons, for the most part.

What's even funnier is that she is right.

You want an economic boom in Mississippi? Legalize the growth of marijuana to export to Colorado.

I googled the word, and it seems that it really is a word ... I just couldn't find the definition of it. At any rate, I'm sure she meant agriculture.

What's that on her head?

There's a form of hemp that's not usable as marijuana

but is used as a construction material. I'm sure that's what she was talking about ....

Vicksburg residents, is this your new mayor ?

On Wednesday, Vicksburg tourism officials called a news conference to “shine a good light” on a city that can’t seem to shake the bad publicity
Then on Friday, we reported that a Vicksburg mayoral candidate once owned a legal brothel in Nevada, according to documents kept by the Nevada secretary of state.
I guess we missed the good publicity memo.
The candidate and former brothel entrepreneur is Linda Fondren of Shape Up Mississippi fame. On the strength of her anti-obesity campaign, Fondren was once voted a finalist for the CNN Hero of the Year award.
Meanwhile, presumably on the strength of its working girls, the Sagebrush Ranch (formerly the Sagebrush Red-Light Ranch) was once voted “Best in Nevada,” according to its website. Best “what,” it doesn’t say; nor does it explain who is voting in these brothel award contests.

The Vicksburg mayoral race is high comedy.

You have had people kicked out of the race for being convicted of a felony. The current mayor running for re-election is under federal investigation for bribery or whatever. And then you have this woman who was in the finals a few years ago on CNN for "people making a difference" in their hometown or something like that and is now known she owns a brothel.

Vicksburg is one of my favorite Ms. towns. The River, the history etc etc have always made it an interesting place to me. I visit there often. It has some really great people and some of the damnedest characters I`ve ever met. It makes me sad to see it`s plight.

None of this tops Mark Sanford. Talk about the people we elect to office. Then somehow we are surprised when they do dumb stuff and make stupid decisions.

George Flaggs Jr. is actually a very good candidate

But he is most definitely in competition with a bunch of buffoons.

I completely agree with her.

Its ridiculous that farmers are not allowed to grow hemp. It's an incredibly versatile crop and uses about 1/2 as much water to grow as cotton. Oil, fiber, milk, etc. can all be made from hemp. Back in the day it was even REQUIRED that people grow hemp.

Presumably one can make rope from it also. I assume you're talking about industrial hemp, not the "medicinal and recreational" variety.
