So my MIL has a small house at the shore and needed to have repairs done to the connection to the outside electrical box which apparently was her responsibility. She hired an electrician who then coordinated with JCP&L to turn the power off/on. The electrician made the repairs (good job and fair price). My MIL just received a bill from JCP&L for $212 for turning the power off/on. Robbery.

While I'm on the subject of power companies - does anyone get a "customer bill of rights" from PSE&G seemingly every month?

Did JCP&L disclose the fee prior to charging it? Did they have to go out to her house or area, or did they just flip a switch remotely?

Disclosed prior to work being done. I don't know if they had to come out to the house.

I have JCPL and we used to have PSEG.

PSEG is far superior in service

After Sandy I rented an apartment till the house was repaired. I had to be out by May 15. The last thing that needed to be done was for JCPL to install the meter and turn on the power on May 13.

I go to the house an the 13th and there's no meter. I call JCPL who says their records show the meter was installed. I had a terrible time convincing them it wasn't. Finally they show up late on the 14th to check I'm telling the truth but didn't bring one so a crew had to come early on the 15th on an emergency basis and hook me up.

Fast forward to the weekend. My next door neighbor shows up for the weekend and finds a spanking new meter on his front porch. WTF? They did show up but for some unknown reason, never installed it, leaving it on someone's porch

Better call Phil… he wants to make us feel better when it comes to being screwed over.
