No, wait...I'm one of those Baptist hypocrites, so I don't even have to give that up.

In reality, I should be forced to watch it as a pennance.

I did this a couple of years ago. I Detoxed after a week. Please understand, I eat there 5-8 times per week. Not nearly as difficult though, as giving up Starbucks...

As a Southern Baptist preacher who is about to move to Mormon country to plant a church, it is sad to me that many Southern Baptists seem to have abandoned their theological foundations of gracein favor of "moralism" or "legalism." I could see how people would think that Southern Baptists believe that salvation is achieved by living a "good" life. As others have pointed out in this thread, nothing could be further from biblical Christianity. Jesus as the substitute for man endured the wrath of God on the cross so that we don't have to(thus maintaining God's perfect justice--Rom 3:21-26). His perfect righteousness is credited to those who follow Him (2 Cor 5:21).

The other troubling aspect of my perception of SBC churches is that certain sins are tolerated, even expected, like racism. To be clear, I'm talking about the image ofSOME SBC churches, not all,and I certainly know plenty of SBC people/churches not like this (or I would just get out). Baptist doctrine as exemplified in the 1644 and 1689 London Confessions generally represents my theological position and what I consider to be true, historical Baptist theology. Sola gratia!

I smoked for 10 years, read the book andquit cold turkeyright after finishing thebookand have not had one since (9 months). In fact, I found it to be pretty easy. I would recommend to anyone trying to quit. What do you have to lose? Its better than paying loads of money on all of the crap people try to sell you that actually work against you.</p>

This was a topic of discussion of a small group I frequent just two weeks ago. I think someone even used the mirror analogy.

The biscuit after taking the kids to school, or a spicy chicken after work. It stinks driving by it 4 times a day. I'll probably drop ten lbs. By default.

I am convinced there is some secret, addictive ingredient in Starbucks Coffee. The year I gave it up was harder than quitting smoking. I did not act in a very Christian, gentlemanly manner that Lent.

though necessarily healthy (although much better than neighboring Sbarro). It's far to easy to grab a chicken biscuit in the morning before class and a quick #1 Meal with Dr. Pepper and CFA sauce for a 30 min lunch in b/t classes. It's also one of the cheapest options, and the only thing open past 8 in the whole damn Union.
