I am considering a career change. An opportunity to be on base salary for 6-7 months, then straight commission. Training included. Im a complete virgin in this market. My strong points are data base/ spatial analysis/ efficiency/communication. Suggestions/comments. Thanks.

It's a lot of money that can be made in that line of work. I know a couple of brokers that make well into the 6 figures a year. I know more that make a good living but nothing to brag about.

It's a lot of factors involved as to how profitable you'll be. Just in general the people I know in the smaller brokerage firms tend to make more money. Especially if they bring their own customers with them.

I'd like to expand my company and add a brokerage to it. It just depends on what happens with the bond requirements if I open it or open under a more established company.

That's funny, I'm looking at the same opportunity.

You don't happen to live in South Carolina?

Ive worked in 3rd party logistics/brokerage for 8.5 years, basically since i got out of MSU. I work for a fortune500 global company and have been involved in truck booking, new sales, customer management, business planning, and management.

If you want to toss me a message with any questions you have about the industry/markets or about specific companies, id be more than happy to answer.
There are a ton of benefits to working for local or regional brokers, and a ton of negatives too. Same things apply to working for a multi-national broker.
One is not better than the other on paper, but there definitely can be a better fit for someone.
