this is a great post and spot on. coaches want to get those 25 + games in for the seniors, kids close to 1k etc. now with state tournament on Monday, you have teams cramming in 3 games this week.
Its a joke. We actually just had a kid get 1000 the other day but yeah, we start Monday for states. You have some teams playing county finals on Saturday and they have to start states on Monday and play Monday, Wednesday Friday or Tuesday Wednesday and Saturday. Kids are playing 25 plus games in basically less than 2 months.

AAU ball? LOL. Those kids play with zero heart, zero intensity and basically just play friendly pick up.

But yes, from a pure entertainment standpoint basketball was more entertaining in the 90’s just as hockey was a better product when there was more fighting

You've said a lot of dumb stuff on these boards over the years but this might just grab the top spot.

I've been at a bunch of these with my sons team the last few years. And he's not even in High School.

Parents and coaches are insane. And I mean insane. Everyone thinks their kid is going D-1. Seen multiple games ended early because both have gone at refs. Man arrested for pulling a gun. Refs locked in a room with police called because someone told him he was going to kill him.

And the play is crazy intense. Everybody's a tough guy and everybody wants to show a kid up because they made a layup. Middle School kids really believing that some scout is there to watch them or care about their "national ranking" that not one college coach cares about.

It's sad, really. But it is most certainly not pickup.

Really ? Camden Eastside?
Like Princeton did with one of their schools and a residential college, the Camden school district recently removed the name of Woodrow Wilson from the school due to what was termed Wilson's racist thinking or views, more specifically his segregationist policies. Official name now is Eastside High School, aka Camden Eastside.

That's a good recap. I've got a friend who posts rankings for his son in the class of 2031! And this friend is a former D1 player who had been coaching AAU for years and years - should know better.

Ill defer to you as i havent been to an aau game since i played bball and this is going back 15 years. It was such a joke and very minimal **** talking. Basically kids wanting to play pick up and zero defense at that time

Camden playing in the States vs. schools that don't recruit is a joke. If anything they should be put in the same grouping with parochials that also recruit.
I guess now the state can finish its investigation of the program , rather than wait until Camden won its state championship, to take it away from them.

I do think basketball in the 90’s was more entertaining.
You were barely old enough to know what basketball was like in the 90s...lol. I graduated in '88 and knew plenty of guys playing HS BBall in the 90s and no one was spearing guys on layups unless you wanted to pick up teeth off the floor.

Sounds like kyk just watched a highlight reel of hard fouls and fights in the 90's and thinks every play went down like that

He tried to say the same thing when Howard slapped another coach saying it happened all the time back then which was obviously not true

90's basketball was awesome though but his perspective on what it was actually like is way over the top

All we need is another board bet he isn't going to pay on to complete this discussion...lol.

Thats what i grew up watching. @Scangg is a very weird guy perpetually trying to like deny the 90’s were much rougher. 80’s was probably roughest but i dont remember 80’s ball, just highlights there

You may not like it and thats fine however youre gonna have to just deal with the fact that i found that era of basketball better than todays. Just as I found 2000’s hockey despite being less skilled than today, far more entertaining. I like violence and passion in sports

Perpetually denying? I've never denied it

Basketball was rougher in the 90's and it was my favorite era of basketball. I was a diehard Knicks fan growing up and Ewing is my favorite player of all time

Your comments about the 90's are just over the top exaggerations though

but they are in the private brackets at least for states. Camden cheats and has been for years. Other publics do this as well but not to the extent they do
So people move to Camden just to play hoops?!!!!

CBA doesn't do that, get your facts straight. Academics come first at CBA. They became great in XC because they have a required freshman run. Historically the top 25 runners were put on the team. That built the tradition, that turned into a juggernaut.
True but Plenty of people move to the area just to run there although the same could be said for Eastern in field hockey

Yes, they are put up and have outsiders.

read this excerpt .
During the 2021-22 season, Camden boasted a roster in which five of the team’s top six scorers did not reside in the city of 73,000 people, according to an NJ Advance Media investigation. The players, including Wagner and Bradshaw, were enrolled through a magnet school loophole. Basketball players were the only out-of-district students in the schools, and they were charged $1,500 for tuition despite the fact that it cost the magnet schools $22,348 to educate each student.

The investigation also found that Bradshaw, who is from Rahway, lived in a house owned by Wagner’s father, Dajuan, the state’s all-time leading scorer for boys, and grandmother, Lisa Paulk, in a suburb 13 miles from Camden; and that Elijah Perkins, a three-star recruit who now plays for Division 1 Austin Peay, moved 70 miles to play for Camden.

saw this earlier. Can’t say im shocked. There have been a bunch of these this year and a bunch of teams banned from states. Camden isn’t even a real team anyways. They shouldn’t even be playing in the state public tournament. Would be hilarious if this is what got them kicked out
They do nothing different than every parochial school in the State. As well as many other public schools.

that’s why they should be playing parochials on states. I agree other publics do it too. Elizabeth for instance is one amongst others .

If you think basketball was rough in the 80's and 90's you should have seen the 60s.
Back then toughness wasn't how many fights you got in but how much you kicked the crap out of the other guy during the game.
Jerry Sloan and Nate Thurmond come to mind in particular. You want to see tough? You should have seen the battles between Dave De Busscherre and Gus Johnson.

Back in the 80's Elizabeth had a powerhouse team. They had players from Linden, Irvington and Jersey City.
yep. I guess some things never changed. Huge towns like Elizabeth shouldn't need to get kids from out of town with so many kids to choose from.

If this is true it's one of the most despicable things I've heard of in high school sports in NJ
nothing would shock me with the njsiaa honestly. Also most of these admins are spineless and don’t care about the kids in general. They just want the easiest route and the least amount of problems

Camden is a very corrupt city, wouldn’t be surprised if there’s at least some truth to it.
People think jersey city is corrupt, camden makes jersey city look like a rectory.

I’m not gonna get into details but next time you take a look at the camden waterfront just know that white collar people were murdered and politicians pockets were filled when those properties and projects were awarded. Those who know, know what im talking about but there is one guy in south jersey you dont cross. A couple people tried to cross him and didnt live to speak about it

You know where Jimmy is buried too I bet. 😂

Hudson County is notorious for its political grift & greed. There are plenty of things a kid born in the 90s wouldn’t know about that would be equally as bad as anything in Camden. But keep telling us otherwise. You’re so out of your league again.
