Recently bought a house in Madison county. I want to mount the tv over the mantle, so I need an electrician to place an outlet over the mantle. While he was doing this I would love it if he could run an HDMI cord to a nearby shelf. It's drywall and wouldn't be that hard, but I can't access the spot above the gas fireplace insert from the attic due to the sloping roof.

As far as mounting the actual TV I personally can handle that. Best buy wants to charge me just for the mounting, but they said I need a certified electrician to place the plug for me first.

Before anyone says "Don't mount over the mantle" It literally is the only place to mount a tv in this home, so its my number 1 choice.

Sayonara, could you email it to me as well?...

I just screened in my back porch and am wanting to mount a TV out there in the top corner. But to do that I need an outlet up in the corner, and hopefully I can get someone that can run the cable as well . If anybody has experience with that, let me know. Thanks in advance

Do you have access to the attic above the porch? The reason that I ask is that it is very easy to run an outlet and coax to the corner above the tv. It is not hard to place an outlet in the wall either but it requires a little more work than the ceiling. It is also very tough to put an outlet or run the coax on an exterior wall.

Weblow, yes I have access to the attic above the porch, but it's tight...I could get to it though if it saves me $300! I would be fine running it through the ceiling...that seems much easier than through the brick.

Shirley you have an outlet in the attic. Run extension cord up there. You don't need another outlet.

It was mentioned a post or so ago but I had an outlet in the attic that I ran a black extension cord from. I took a regular coax cover and drilled out the edge of it. From my ceiling in the corner above the tv is a coax cable cover with a small black cord coming out and obviously the coax that runs the tv. You can do it for about $20. All you will have to buy is the extension cord, if you don't have one, the coax, and the plate cover. You will also need some wood screws to attach the coax cover. I did not cut out and put the entire box to attach the cover to, like you would find in your walls, there was no reason. I just drilled a hole large enough for the extension cord and coax to go through and then put the plate over that hole. Looks professionally done and was the exact right price.
