Manaea's velocity averaging below 90 so far is very concerning. Was very surprised when he opted out of any sort of cleanup procedure after the issues bothering him last season.
If his velocity's down this low, not good.Manaea's velocity averaging below 90 so far is very concerning. Was very surprised when he opted out of any sort of cleanup procedure after the issues bothering him last season.
Like himI watched Vientos's at-bats yesterday--still swinging at the breaking stuff down and away.
he is a guy who I feel would thrive elsewhere...it seems almost like he knows that the front office really does not believe in him. I get that type of feel from Vientos- lots of talent but his head is getting in his way.Like him
Want him
Think we need should trade him
right now he has ZERO trade value , he's been awful this spring and was horrible in the WBC .
He has to be aware he’s next on the trading block and it can’t be helping him at the plate.

In some ways- it had seemed it was that way with Baty early on but his head got into the game to prove them wrong. It is ironic that it still seems that even Baty is not a front office favorite but he just plays his way into making it impossible to ignore.
Too bad they did not trade Vientos when he still had value.
I generally agree with this, not because its the Mets, but simply because this is how preseason managers talk.maybe it is just years of Met's fandom ptsd but i never believe a word i hear from any of the front office or manager
The problem is that they are paying Polanco 20 mil Bichette 40 mil and semien almost 30 mil in the spots these guys play...I think Baty has earned the most playing time so far so he should see 400+ ABs this year. Vientos seems like a guy that needs a consistent spot to play in order to put together numbers- he is always going to be a streaky kind of guy.I generally agree with this, not because its the Mets, but simply because this is how preseason managers talk.
I also think that's it's too early to give up on Vientos. He produced big-time in the minors and had a truly terrific and lengthy stretch of highly productive hitting in 2024, which he carried through the playoffs. That said, he'll need to produce this year or he'll likely find himself elsewhere. The Mets have several players like this (e.g., Baty, Mauricio), but the good news is that only one or two of them need to produce.
With his great spring and what Stearns said earlier this year- it would seem he has locked himself into RFBenge with another really good game last night getting on base 4 times with 2 walks and a double. Really intrigued to see what they do in RF to begin the season.
If Vientos is streaky, it’s a weird kind of steakiness in which he generally has very long steaks. I think, instead, he’s s maturing player who hit very well for a good while, then the league adjusted, and now we’ll see whether he can counter-adjust.The problem is that they are paying Polanco 20 mil Bichette 40 mil and semien almost 30 mil in the spots these guys play...I think Baty has earned the most playing time so far so he should see 400+ ABs this year. Excited to see Pena. He’s still very young and raw but scouts are pretty consistent in their appraisal of his skills.Roster for tomorrow's Spring Breakout game.

Agree. He’s the guy to watch. TV coverage?Excited to see Pena. He’s still very young and raw but scouts are pretty consistent in their appraisal of his skills.
I will respond to this tomorrow!always love your postings or these types- it is something that really gives us a great insight and it is appreciated.
curious on your thoughts as to is going to be a solid to great MLB. Myself- I don't have much of a feel outside the guys we already know.
but for position players- C - Suero seems like potential, Inf - Pena, Reimer, Voit are the ones I see with major potential- Clifford seems like he just isnt going to ever break through, OF- Ewing seems like a future AS player- Morabito with a big upside.
I dont have facts to base my thoughts on but would love to get your feel on the guys on the list that have caught your eye for either the good or bad
Yup it'll be on SNY tomorrow at 7.Agree. He’s the guy to watch. TV coverage?
Also will be one of the live games on MLB Network.Yup it'll be on SNY tomorrow at 7.
It'll be even more fun next year as they're going to make it a mini tournament with teams advancing as they win.
Some of these names we did see up close and personal during our visit.@yesrutgers01
Using the new Pipeline top 30 this is kind of how I see everyone with a quick blurb. I want to premise this though with an overall no one really knows how these players will end up. It's fun to follow but the range of outcomes ultimately is so wide because of how many factors go into this and these guys are human. We can't account for things we have no idea about and especially pitchers who are so volatile and injury prone. Industry wide the Mets are now considered one of the best organizations in developing pitching talent and that is another major thing Stearns has helped develop in such a short time. So again, this kind of how I see everyone with those caveats that these things change quicker than ever in this landscape. Current projections if everything goes well.
Wow ok that was a lot more than I expected to write but a fun time none the less. I can basically see 2/3 of our players in the top 30 that won't graduate this year with an upside of ending up as a top 100 prospect by the end of the season. Obviously that won't really happen but shows the depth of the farm and with a lot of upside still after this big wave coming quick. Any questions feel free to ask.
- Nolan McLean RHP (MLB NY Mets) - Stud - You see how his stuff breaks which is all next level. All WBC hitters even can't believe how crazy his stuff is and how he can throw 6 pitches all well. Ultimately dependent on how he can get his command/control worked out if he can limit the HRs - All Star/CY Upside
- Carson Benge OF (AAA Syracuse) - Master of all trades. Going to be very good with all 5 tools but nothing exceptional unless he taps into new found power - All Star upside
- Jonah Tong RHP (MLB NY Mets) - Tricky because he's still a 2 pitch pitcher. Have to follow his developemnt of a 3rd and 4th pitch this season. Can see him as a 3-5 or eventually on the lower end a shut down closer
- A.J. Ewing OF/2B (AA Binghamton) - Super athletic with a high floor and still a good ceiling. He keeps improving so if he can get an iota of power we have another stud. Speed and D is already great. Hit tool looks great. Will depend on power but already looks like a starting CF - All Star Upside
- Ryan Clifford 1B/OF (AAA Syracuse) - Getting better with his Ks so that will ultimately determine how good he ends up. Prodigious power and still young for every level he's at. Prospect fatigue is real but enormous upside still. Playable in corner OF or 1B - All Star Upside
- Jacob Reimer 3B (AA Binghamton) - Yet another hitter with All Star upside- Took leaps and bounds last year and a hitter who loves the game and tracks analytics and how he can keep improving. D is a work in progress so will depend on where he ultimately ends up position wise. A personal fav since he was drafted.
- Jack Wenninger RHP (AA Binghamton) - Another pitcher who keeps improving year by year. Velocity keeps ticking up. Great splitter and working on that 3rd pitch. 3-5 upside with a probable debut this year.
- Mitch Voit 2B (Low A St. Lucie) - Another 2 way player like McLean and Benge. I'll focus on his hitting this year after draft/debut. Great speed and should end up with a good hit tool. Super athletic and can play at all IF positions.
- Elian Pena SS (Rookie DSL Mets Orange) - Huge bonus baby, Started off terrible last year going 0-26 then ran a heater. Tons of players put up great DSL numbers. Could grow out of SS. Have to monitor his EVs as they werent as great as you would think with his numbers. Good patience at plate for such a young hitter. Huge huge upside but so far away. We'll get a better idea being stateside but a ways to go.
- Jonathan Santucci LHP (AA Binghamton) - Lefty who throws hard puts him in a good place to start. Another player who started last season off terribly who then ran off a heater. As always will depend on a 2rd pitch after his FB/SL right now. 3-5 upside with bullpen possible.
- Will Watson RHP (AA Binghamton) - Another current personal fave. Throws a ton of pitches at you and velocity keeps getting better. Mets pitching development is definitely a thing. Command/control improvement gets him to big upside. One to watch
- Wandy Asigen SS (Rookie DSL Mets) - Huge bonus baby lefty stolen from Yankess which is phenomenal. Will make DSL debut this year and go from there. Scouts obviously excited with his already high EVs and we'll see what we got to begin with in the Summer.
- Nick Morabito OF (AA Binghamton) - Most likely an extra OF on a contending team. Above average D with speed. Larger K rates than you want to see but at worst a late inning D and PR. Will see him this year.
- Eli Serrano OF (High A Brooklyn) - Expect a breakout this year. Big lefty at 6'5 who shows good contact and power will come. Good defender for a big guy who can play CF but will probably move to a corner.
- Zach Thornton LHP (AA Binghamton) - Another Mets SP but he flys under the radar a little because of his inury mid-season. Was flying through the year putting up great numbers. Excellent control who doesn't walk anyone with an ok fastball ang big slider. Looked good this Spring. If his FB gets more consistent in the mid 90s could end up a #3 but more likely that bulldog lefty in the back of the rotation.
- Chris Suero C/1B/OF (AA Binghamton) - Super ahtletic who can play all over the field and also a good runner. C/IF/CF so a Daulton Varsho type in that sense. Really needs to work on his contact and that will ultimately determine his upside. As of now wide range of outcomes at a lot of positions.
- Antonio Jimenez SS (Low A St. Lucie) - Big arm and flashy SS who can stick depending on bat. Has raw power but just drafted/debut so we'll see this year what kind of hit tool.
- Ryan Lambert RHP (AA Binghamton) - Huge FB/SL guy. Closer upside.
- Dylan Ross RHP (AAA Syracuse) - Another huge FB guy. Has a split and other pitches he can throw. Needs to get his walks under control but ultimately high leverage RP upside.
- R.J. Gordon RHP (AA Binghamton) - Ok FB but throws a lot of good secondaries like a slider, curve, change. Backend upside because of his lack of velo but was improving as year went on. Again Mets minors pitching development a thing.
- Marco Vargas INF (High A Brooklyn) - Above average glove probably best SS glove in the system. Not much hit but good plate presence and can run. Knows how to take a walk so we'll see if the bat comes around.
- Jonathan Pintaro RHP (AAA Syracuse) - Good find by scouts in Pioneer league. Good FB with an interesting cutter. Mid inning RP.
- Peter Kussow RHP (Rookie FCL Mets) - Big righty drafted last year in 4th round from HS. No debut and rumor is he has an injury and may not pitch until late this year if at all. Was expected to have a big FB touching upper 90s with a big spin slider and a working change up. Cold weather pitcher who needed work on his delivery so lots of upside which is why Mets went above slot. Hoping the injury stuff isnt true and we get to see his debut this year.
- Boston Baro INF (High A Brooklyn) - Was expected to have an AJ ewing like breakout last year as scouts raved about him but not much went right and was terrible against off speed stuff. Still young but lots to work on. Good speed and D however but really important season for him.
- Randy Guzman 1B (Low A St. Lucie) - Good strenth with good EVs. Really a hacker with high Ks but as you can see by his stats also hit really well. Not a good field or runner. If lucky we get a decent hitting 1B.
- Daiverson Gutierrez C (Low A St. Lucie) - Big bonus baby catcher. These things take time. Showed great plate discipline last year. Shows promise defensively at C and we'll see what the bat does this year. One to watch.
- Camden Lohman RHP (Rookie FCL Mets) - Another 2025 HS pitcher drafted in the 8th rd who Mets went above slot for. Good size and has a good mid 90s FB. Has the workings of a good slider and curve. Good extension and a possible 4th pitch with a split. Will make his debut in FCL this year and one to watch especially under Mets pitching development.
- Nathan Hall RHP (Rookie FCL Mets) - College arm drafted in the 6th rd last year. Good FB and will work on a slider and curve. Had an injury when drafted so has been rehabbing. Expected to make debut at some point this year.
- Cam Tilly RHP (Rookie FCL Mets) - College arm drafted in the 7th rd last year. RP in college but Mets are going to extend him out to try him as a SP. Good FB and high spin rates on his secondaries give Mets something to work with. High walk rate he'll need to get under control.
- Brendan Girton RHP (AA Binghamton) - A little older at 24 with a good FB and lots of secondaries. Some walk rate problems. Hit AA and will most likely end up in pen.
Pena's bat speed was ridiculous. Jeez.Spring breakout was fun but not much hitting. Pitching all looked good. Pena looks like the real deal.
. . .
Hope you had a great time! Some of these names we did see up close and personal during our visit.
I will have to check in with my son first before I can comment as he sees things better than I do.
We did. As I've said previously, highly recommend this.Hope you had a great time!
