They screamed about it in Memphis as well and it never happened. They allowed liquor stores to sell food and also be opened on Sundays. They learned really quick many people would still prefer to buy their liquor from local liquor stores
Yeah, I remember all these same arguments being had here in TN years ago. They compromised to allow liquor stores to sell some grocery items. Beer hasn’t been affected by wine in grocery stores either. Matter of fact, wine has their own section away from beer in the stores I frequent.
Liquor stores have thrived despite the fear-mongering.

Things like this make me rethink wanting to move back to MS. It reminds me of the dumb, asinine, good ole boy crap I have such a disdain for.

Since when have republicans been for the free market?
For a long tme, just not In Mississippi. Big chunk of our republicans are just 1990s style democrats that switched parties rather than follow the national democrat party left.

There are certainly some free market republicans in MS, but they’re a minority.

Could be worse, the counties that some of yall live in could still be completely dry...

The amount of beer cans littered coming from the county line beer store into Choctaw would make anyone realize, "why are we still doing this"?

Agreed. But it’s a Gluckstadt ABC facility two cities removed from Jackson.

Disagree about Publix. They’re fine, just like our Krogers are fine. Wouldn’t mind a Trader Joe’s though as they offer something different.
Nah Publix is way better than Kroger. Nicer stores, pay employees better, better meat department. Kroger is not terrible by any means but it would be nice to see Kroger get some competition around here… and wal mart is not the type of competition I’m talking about. There needs to be another “nice” grocery store that competes on a better experience and not just price. Rouses would also be nice to have and probably more realistic than Publix

I gave up on MS liquor laws after I spent a few months in Chattanooga. Now I make a roadtrip a couple of times a year to the Chattanooga Whiskey Distillery and the Georgia Winery. I bring back $$$$. Here’s hoping I’m not breaking laws or ever getting caught doing it.

Toal Wine and Spirits in BR is my second favorite destination.

Total Wine in Pensacola absolutely blew my mind when I walked in there for the first time.

Can you buy a drink at a restaurant on a Sunday?

The rest of that doesn't matter much. Thanks to this thread, I now realize I've been buying for 40 years. We just planned for it, if we wanted to drink at the house on a Sunday.

I like that store too. The sell some of the hard to find stuff from Chatt Whiskey. They had a bottle of the Founder’s 12th year after Thanksgiving. If you like sipping whiskey, it’s fine stuff.

Not sure if he mentioned "rapes," but that was Roy Perkins Esquire. The main opposition to Sunday sales on the city council. Otherwise a good fella.
