just a 5k with obstacles, and it is a ton of fun from all accounts. I'm very likely doing this and then heading back up to Starkville that afternoon... thanks for the info!

I run so I didn't really do any kind of training for the obstacles. There is a ton of climbing, so i recommend wall climbing or something of the sort when training.

racing. Count me in.

I hate to miss much SBW, but I can still probably make most of it.

would you be willing to share your honest injun normal 5k PR versus what you did in this thing in Tennessee?

Just looking for a rough comparison.

But add about 10 to 15 minutes onto a 5k time. Also, I had injured my big toe the previous day and this changed my gait to where I developed a blister on the foot I hurt. Plus I normally wear $400 orthotics (for plantar fasciitis and an oversize second metatarsal) and there was no way I was going to let them get soaked in the mud pit, so my feet were hurting after about a mile and a half. My PR on a 5k is around 26 minutes and I ran this in 46 minutes, but at least 5 minutes of that additional time was due just to being out of shape.

I've been wanting to do one for a while but didn't feel like driving very far. Not sure I can pass this up.

I noticed they start in waves throughout the day. Do you get a chance to choose your starting time, or is that random?

@ Shmuley --- I think times vary depending on course. From results I've looked at, some don't look much slower than a normal 5k and others look more like a 10k (very few people under 30 minutes).

but I think I'll stick to the half and full marathons. I would probably hurt myself doing something like that. No idea how to prepare..

When I did it last month, I finished in 40 minutes. And I paced myself, as people warned me about the obstacles really taking a lot out of you. I would have finished a regular 5k in about 30 minutes. I wasn't in my usual shape either. Long story. <div>
</div><div>In my usual shape, and I'm close to being "back" now is about a 25 minute 5k.</div><div>

A good simulation would be... <div>
</div><div>Run a mile, do some bodyweight exercises for 30-60 seconds, and then continue alternating 1/4 to 1/2 mile runs with BW exercises until you hammer out 3.5 miles. Also work on doing pullups. You won't do any pullups in warrior dash, but there are a number of wall-climbing obstacles with ropes that you pull to assist yourself.</div><div>
</div><div>Warrior Dash is fun. Anybody that can run a 5k should be able to do it. The obstacles are notgrueling. They just tax your endurance. And as I said, you need some, not a lot, of upper body strength.</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>I'd really like to try for tough mudder next year. A fellow badass invited me to run with his team. I'd need to work up to some pretty kick *** shape for that.</div>
