I'm shocked--SHOCKED--and appalled to discover what we all assume is happening is really happening!

bac your comment about the families is down right racist in tone--what makes you think that just because you are poor or play basketball you have no morals?
Stating facts does not make you a racist, it makes you factual. You also attributed statements to BAC that he did not make.

BAC is 100% correct!

what?? since when are generalizations fact??? the "parents don't care" statement by him is a fact??? they have different standards because they are poor and from broken homes is a fact??? ascribing those generalizations to basketball players has a racist tone since anyone with a social conscience knows this sounds like code words referring to all Afro American basketball players from the inner city and that their families condone bad behavior--why?? they are so used to it? this has nothing to do with old white guys---prostitution while pimping out your children has nothing to do with black or white

I have no idea what anybody said that was or wasn't racist 'cause I wasn't paying close attention. And mostly I don't really care.

But I do care that people constantly (and mistakenly) say that accuracy is mutually exclusive with racism. Or another favorite where people claim that accuracy is mutually exclusive with arrogance. Neither thing is even remotely true.

A person can absolutely make a racist statement that happens to also be true. A person can absolutely make an arrogant statement that happens to also be true. There is nothing in the definitions of either term that requires incorrectness.

People should look up the definition of the terms "racist" and "arrogant" and actually understand what they mean before they (a) use them and (b) claim their use to be incorrect.

Well said...racism is not defined by truth or lies.

Btw- as a parent...I am just a little pissed off that I missed out on this stuff...

What do you unlike about what I said?

Edit: I mean, are you objecting to the actual, literal definitions of the terms "racist" and "arrogant"? You do realize I didn't define them, right? Maybe you should be unlikeing dictionaries.

I'll never forget my official visits...They all included a wild time...this was late 80's...biggest memory was when myself and 2 other NJ players were flown down south...we flew into DC and then on a private plane to University...met by beautiful girls at airport and they showed us around...We didn't meet head coach until our meetings on Sunday morning and we all knew we were getting offered...We had like a 1pm flight scheduled to leave...me and other recruit met with coach for about an hour as scheduled...3rd recruit was nowhere to be found...his hosts had no idea where he was...campus and city police where involved...they finally found him in a bush around 12:30...we were hustled to airport and flew out...he never met HC...me and other recruit had to carry him off plane in DC and then we carried him on plane back to Newark...He was so banged up we carried him off plane in Newark and handed him to his parents...oh man that was wild and something I'll never forget!

I don't dislike the literal definitions. The "unlike" is more about you missing the point (or ignoring) made by the previous poster. He objected to the "generalizations" made in the other comments. He specifically mentioned, how can generalizations be considered facts. I'm not sure how that resulted in you bringing up literal dictionary definitions.....but, it's a message board, you can take the conversation in whatever direction you want.

maybe no morals but perhaps more likely to look the other way. Look lets be honest here, college basketball recruiting is FILTHY. There is money exchanged all the time, jobs, gifts, cars, etc...and a lot of the time relatives of the players are involved...and in this case allegedy there is a guardian involved participating with the player. This happens at a high level winning programs. Winning matters, favors are given. Is it still racist if people know stuff like this is happening.

Yeah, but you know I don't make those sorts of generalizations myself. And you've witnessed me arguing against such generalizations on the CE board many times. But this board almost never strikes me as the time or place to make such arguments.

And anyway, if you reread what I said, I'm basically saying that even if a statement is factual, is does not preclude or excuse any racism expressed in the statement.
