Any solid recommendations for:

1) dining
2) lodging downtown near lower Broadway
3) must see / must do attractions including obviously sporting events

Got a little jingle in my pocket and a 10 year anniversary to celebrate.

1) Kayne Prime - don't let anybody talk you into anything else. This is the place to go. I'd call a week or two ahead to get a reservation.
2) Hilton or Omni
3) Ryman, TPAC, Titans or whatever's going on at Bridgestone Arena. Honky Tonks late night.

Good suggestions

If you have time come visit Franklin. Good food, shopping, music and Battle of Franklin 150th anniversary this year. Lot of history.

Stayed at the Sheraton downtown for the Music City Bowl. It's walking distance to both 1st and Broadway. There are hotels a couple blocks closer but usually have limited availability.

One block from the Sheraton is Morton's Steakhouse. Order the hot chocolate cake before doing anything else. It takes a while to cook. Split the wedge salad. Order the Cajun ribeye and split the asparagus.

Pancake Pantry for breakfast if you can handle that much sugar in the morning.

Prince's Hot Chicken Shack. If you watch Food Network you've seen it on there. Go during the day though. Not the best neighborhood at night.

The obvious choice of something to do is a Titans game if they're playing while you're there.

There's always the Opryland Hotel. It's a nice time killer, but I wouldn't stay there. The wife and I stayed there last Thanksgiving. $9 beers and $12 mixed drinks turned me off pretty fast.

Hilton is on Broadway and 4th. Right in the middle of all Broadway action. Connected to Bridgestone Arena. May be an event there the weekend you visit.

Areas of note to visit:

East Nashville/Germantown: hipster area that is being turned over. Several cool restaurants (City House, Tree House)

8th Ave.: Couple great craft beer bars (ML Rose especially)

12 South: a few great restaurants and bars. Urban Grub, 12 south tap room, don't waste your time with Burger Up.

The Gulch: Kayne Prime is great. Whiskey Kitchen is a decent bar. English Pub down there looks cool but it blows. Pour House is not bad.

Downtown: Roberts Western World, tootsies, the stage, and legends are all great music. House guitar player at Robert's is a 19 year old named Daniel Donato. He's one of the best up and coming guitarists in the country. You can check him out on YouTube.

Merchants is a great/cool restaurant downtown. Impossible to get a table.

The Southern is fantastic and should be on your list. Awesome scene. Awesome food.

Printers Alley is a must see if you've never been before. It's a Mardi gras section of bars in an alley between Church and Union south of Third.

21st Ave/Hilsboro Village is cool. Satco is a great place to eat Tacos and drink buckets of beer on the patio. Pancake Pantry is way over rated and you will have to get there at 6am unless you want to wait in line for 90 minutes. If I was going to take somewhere for breakfast I would go to Noshville. It's a New York deli that has great food and atmosphere. Tons of local celebs and musicians hang out there. I saw Robert Plant there a few months ago. They have an incredible Bloody Mary bar that hits the spot in the mornings.

Take your wife to the square in downtown Franklin. She'll love you for it if she likes boutique shopping. Several great restaurants there as well. 55 south is damn good even though an ole miss guy owns it. Also Cork and Cow is great.

Leipers Fork is a great drive. Beautiful wide open pastures where many country music stars have farms.

Oh yeah Titans too

Got a little jingle in my pocket and a 10 year anniversary to celebrate.

Dining:

City House(not in east nashville like mentioned above. Germantown actually. Right by downtown)
Kayne Prime
Jimmy kelly's
Husk
Rolph and daughters
Hattie B's(i like it better than prince's)
Burger Up or Parmacy for a burger
Flyte
The Southern

Stay at Omni

Visit Yazoo or Jackalope Brewery

Have a drink at the rock bottom rooftop bar

Visit printers alley. Its cool but nothing worth staying too long for.

The gulch is really cool and nice for shopping/eating.

See a show at ryman auditorium.

Check the TPAC schedule. They are getting a lot of good top notch plays/comedians.

Jonathan waxman just opened a new restaurant called Adele's in the gulch but i haven't heard any reviews.

If you can get a reservation(probably too late) and want to shell out five hunnid for the anniversary dinner(flat fee) go to catbird seat.

If you are coming the first weekend in sept, hit up Live On The Green. Good artists. Free show on the riverfront.

Franklin is an awesome town to visit if you're 70 years old, hate finding convenient parking, love one way streets for NO REASON AT ALL, ridiculous traffic/road construction that your GPS can't get around, and are in love with the idea that the south really won the war.

Cool Springs area is not included in this stereotype however.

Gotta Throw in Taco Mamacita /Bella Napoli

Taco Mamacita is in Edge Hill Village ( between Music Row & Belmont/Vandy/Ghetto area)....decent beer selection. Thank me later for the scenery. Also, right around the corner is Bella Napoli pizzeria.

Also, may want to consider the mid-town Hampton Inn across from Amerigo's (get the veal saltimbocca...not always on menu). This area beats the **** outta lower broad.

The correct answers: dining

Kayne prime for steak. Period.
Smiling elephant for thai. Period.
Rosepepper or mas tacos por favor for mexican.
Mama mias for italian. There arent really any other good ones.
Silly goose, city house or catbirds seat for dining. Rolf and daughters as well. Etch is pretty good too and i always enjoy the southern.
Pharmacy, pm, tavern or the southern for a burger. Dont go to pour house or burger up or burger republic. They all suck.
Hattie bs hot chicken. Dont consider another joint unless you want the hot chicken and waffles from the row. The row is a little sweeter than hatties.
Brewhouse for wings. Smoking thighs at south street are the best in town.
Loveless cafe is legit.
Dont go to pancake pantry. Walk next door to fido.
Bricktops, tavern, etc for brunch. Porter road butchers biscuits n gravy on saturdays is the best meal in town.
I wouldnt spend to much time at 12 south. It is a cool area but none of the restaurants or bars are really good. Epice is good and ive heard josephine is but havent tried it.
People mentioned the gulch. I generally dont go there and nothing really stands out besides watermark.
You can never go wrong at pucketts.
Arnolds for a meat and 3

Lodging is expensive. Omni or hilton or hampton are best locations downtown. Id stay in midtown. I go downtown maybe once a month.

Must sees have pretty much been gone over. Dont spend all your time downtown with people from iowa. Go to midtown and drink at brewhouse or red door.

Arrington vineyards would be worth the drive and sept is peak season.

Does Kayne have Kobe beef?

It has the American version--Wagyu (sp?). Best steak place in town. Also, Husk is really good. Both can get expensive.

One other spot that I didn't see mentioned is the Belle Meade Plantation tour. I love Carnton Plantation and the Carter House in Franklin, but this tour is my favorite. There is a great horse racing history from the area and a wine tasting at the end. It's like a tiny version of the Biltmore (if you like that kind of thing).

Check out the little concert venues too. You never know who will be playing (Third and Lindsley, Cannary Ballroom, Twelfth and Porter, The Basement, Marathon Music Works, Bluebird Cafe).

Corsair Distillery is in the Marathon Building too. They have a cool tour and make some good stuff.
