If you want a really nice course try to get on at the Hermitage, either course is pretty nice. While you're in that area you can check out Andrew Jackson's Hermitage home, which is pretty good I guess. Forest Crossing in Franklin is a nice course and is my favorite in the area. Nothing against Percy Warner...it's ok if you wanna walk and play 9 holes.
Anything in the Gulch is pretty good for food. Cantina Laredo (mexican) and Whiskey Kitchen (southern) are my favorites. Mafioso's is a very good italian joint, but I've never been. Stockyard is WAY overrated, stay away from there.
If you want some bbq, head to Martin's in Nolensville (a little out of the way) or Mt Juliet; they have 2 locations. One of the owners is a state fan too and I believe an alumnus. It's fantastic bbq and has been featured on that drive ins, diners and whatever show on food network.
For drinks and night entertainment, there's 2nd avenue if you're younger and into the clubbing scene, Broadway if you're more of a country bar type of person and they'll play live music in most of those joints(Tootsie's is there and I recommend it), Printer's Alley has a great blues bar, and if you're wanting more of a frat style scene head to west end over by tin roof and dan mcguiness. If you just want beer, beer cellar on 2nd avenue is a kind of "hole in the wall" that sells pitchers of a bunch of different drafts and has darts, or if you're wanting a little more upscale there's a flying saucer over by Union Station, which the latter has some history and is close to the Frist as well and you could make half a day out of it. Both of those beer places have 100+ beers on tap. I agree with Wilco on the breweries and will add Blackstone to that list. Pancake Pantry is also a good suggestion, but be prepared for lines at "pan pan". If you want a winery Kix Brooks has one out south of town called Arrington Vineyards, but I wouldn't go there if you're by yourself, it's just not that kind of place. It's more of a tasting place and a nice view.
Local attractions: Hermitage, Frist, Parthenon, Cheekwood. It might just be preseason, but you can try and get some predators tickets if you want to see what a live hockey game is like. Try to get close to the action if you do that and you're curious about the sport and aren't a fan yet. Naturally you can always check on Titans tickets as well. Since they've sucked recently, tickets are easier to come by lately than in the Eddie George/Steve McNair era.
