ncaa trying to stay relevant as they see the writing on the wall

Instead of losing the Big 10/SEC to a new entity, keep them under their wing but with a new designation.

Makes sense from the NCAA perspective. Instead of just letting them leave.

Complying with title ix is a bit ridiculous.

How much funding does the revenue sports get from the school now?
Couldn't they drop the school funding and be relieved of Title IX?

Make the school fund non-revenue sports through a separate Title IX compliant department.

Reveneu sports self fund through media reveneue and other revenue funds with no Title IX requirements.

Note: allocate an appropriate percentage of the media contract to the non-revenue departments

A little inchoate for me to follow yet, but NCAA makes majority of its money from basketball.
I would like to see BB and FB split-up and NCAA replaced by something new for football.

  • The NCAA earned $1.14 billion in revenues in 2022, with roughly a billion of these earnings made from March Madness.
  • Despite a large amount of money generated by the NCAA and its member colleges during March Madness, the players have historically received zero compensation.

Sharing of the broadcast revenue should be part of this. This is also an attempt to close the barn door after wolves ate all the chickens.

College Athletics has become ridiculous.
If they are paid like professional athletes, please don't use the term Student/Athletes and ask Alumni to pay their way through college.

Required Seat Fees go towards R Fund I believe.
Which funds scholarships and literally pays their way through college.

So if you have season tickets, you are paying their way through college.
ADs have always asked Alumni pay for athletes - just funneled through the AD.

This new proposal (trust fund) is actually the exact same thing as R Fund it seems. Just an added expense.

Unless the conferences agree on some kind of player compensation cap, this will turn into complete chaos and create even more unfair competition among the schools and ultimately disillusioned fans and alumni. There should be some kind of media and apparel revenue sharing, and that's it. Conferences would have to agree that while students are free to earn as much NIL money as they want if they don't play football, their earnings would be capped if they are to remain eligible to play college football. I think that this can satisfy the law and also keep schools from outright buying players, at least on the surface. The presidents are going to have to step in and redirect the conversation to student athletes that are compensated rather than a "pay for play" scheme, where players go to the highest bidder. I don't think that the athletic directors can pull this off because they are too focused on competing at all costs.

Assume the answer is yes, but anyone know if the academies have to comply with title IX - at least in the same way as the men’s side? They have non -profits funding athletic departments.

That is not gonna happen. No one is capping earning ability.

I disagree Plum. I predict that this is exactly what will happen if this proposal is implemented.
