if we can't get into Polynesian Village. Yacht Club has an awesome pool and is connected to Epcot, butwe just didn't utilize these features enough with our schedule. Yacht Club rooms
are nobetter than Port Orleans, and as for rooms we crash wake upand then hit the ground running again.

Free-spending US tourists shrugged off economic worries to overwhelm Disney World and other top Florida theme parks this week, forcing them to temporarily shut the gates, local officials said Thursday.

Some visitors to Legoland, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and three Disney destinations found parking lots and entryways shut for short periods Wednesday and Thursday as the Orlando area enjoys record numbers of tourists for the Christmas-New Year holiday.

"We are having yet again another very busy day," Legoland spokeswoman Jackie Wallace said as she explained why the park had to limit entrances for the second day running.

Just two months old, Legoland has been a huge hit even though it started up amid worries that the US economy was not recovering from the 2008-2009 recession.

Three of Disney's four Orlando parks, the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, all had to freeze entry for around 90 minutes on Wednesday to "ensure guests had a memorable experience," according to a Disney official.

People staying at Disney's own hotels and on Disney packages could get in but those who just came for the day were put off, the official said -- adding that they could have waited, and that the tickets are good for a long time

If you are flexible with your travel dates, I strongly recommend mid October. Weather is great and crowds are down. No way you could get me to go spring break through the end of summer. Stayed at Polynesian last year, Contemp year before. They are great if you have small children and will spend most of your time at Magic Kingdom...getting to other parks isnt difficult either. The monorail makes the price increase worth it...kids get tired, we get to room in twenty minutes, rest a few hours..then back at park in twenty minutes. No waiting for a bus for half an hour, then travel to four other resorts before finally arriving at MK90 minutes later. Also, strongly suggest a meal plan..I've done the math and you literally save a couple hundred bucks, strongly suggest "park hopper" passes too...come and go as you please, any park, anytime.

We did Chef Mickey...simply so we could meet all the characters and get photos at one place...didnt have to wander all over the park and wait in line to meet them individually. Definitely use fastpass, and get a smart phone app to check wait times. Again, I think the most important decision you will make isthe time of year you visit.Disney is expensive, but I think you get more bang for your buck thanmany other vacation packages....they usually have their **** together in a major way.

PS - "Soaring" at Epcot is a must ride...get there before the park opens and fastpass it...I think it's the most popular ride at Disney right now.

Lived in Orlando before and live about 2 hours away now.
I always liked going in October with warm but not hot weather and not crowded. I pitty the fool who goes in July/August.
If kids are 11 years old or older, I would take them to Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure. I loved the place and the rides where fun for me and thetwo 11 year old girls with us. There are several rides where you can get wet so it's probably to cold to go after November.
First time I went, it was right after I graduated college and went with my (then) girlfriend in August. It was 97 degrees, everything was crowded, and just about went nuts hearing "It's a Small World After All" all day long.

The next time I went was 20 years later inlate September, with the wife and kids. Much cooler, small crowds, and stretched the Disney visit over two days (stayed in a time-share condo off Disney property).Much more relaxed and easygoing. Also took the kids to Typhoon Lagoon. Apparently, late September is when a lot of British military take their leave trips....ran into a lot of Brit soldiers andsailors and their families (they definitely have bad teeth).

Went last March with wife and two little ones. Plane ticket, car rental and hotel was paid for through Delta Sky Miles. Still dropped about $1400 for tickets to the parksand food the kids wanted. Also crap like balloons.
