They rereleased Indiana jones and the last crusade in theaters for Father’s Day and I went to see it with my daughters. It was awesome. For me anyways. My daughters humored me.
I went Father’s Day weekend too. Theaters around here have been making it a Father’s Day tradition for the past few years. It’s kind of a perfect Father’s Day movie.

I think Raiders is the best Indiana Jones movie, but Last Crusade is my favorite.

We go a good bit. It's just a much better experience than sitting on the same old couch.

I took the kids to see the new Jurassic World the other night. It's a little over the top (the big baddy at the end is kind of insane) but not bad at all. Had some good scares. We all liked it.
My in-laws were astounded I’d never seen the original Jurassic Park, so I watched it with them last summer. I’ve yet to have a bad time during a Spielberg movie*, and hope everybody enjoys the rest of the series!

* I just tell people I’ve watched Schindler’s List. I’m not 100% proud of this.

"under God" wasn't added to the Pledge of Allegiance until in '54. and "in God we Trust" wasn't added to coinage until 1956.

And Richard Nixon was the first President to sign off with "God Bless the United States of America" after he tried to explain to the nation why the whole Watergate Scandal was a hoax.

Reagan brought it back at the 1980 GOP convention. And our great God-fearing leaders have been using it for the God-loving public ever since.

THANK GOD FOR AMERICA!
If only we elected leaders who behaved in a godly manner instead of deciding that someone on our team is allowed to behave in quite inappropriate and vulgar ways because who am I to judge, we're all sinners, that's between him and God and his wife and look at what so and so on the other team is doing.

Just got back from seeing it. Loved it.

the part where he lit an American flag on fire and sang the old Soviet Union national anthem was a little weird admittedly
Damn. I gotta see that. Gonna be awesome in surround sound.

there is not one moment in the movie that is anti-American. There were actually some “yay America” moments. I swear to Zod everyone wants to be outraged about everything.

I also don’t understand not enjoying a movie because people involved in making it have different political views than you.
I only listen to music by artists who share all of my political views. Damn I miss listening to music but now my life is so much better because I listen to talk radio and watch cable news that confirms all of my biases and I get to go to bed angry every night knowing that somewhere in America some people are doing things I don't like and that's not right.

The politics is why I quit watching movies in the theater.

I miss the days when we made movies just for the sake of making them.
Current reality isn't nearly as bad as you make it, and history isn't close to as good as you remember.

The real difference between 'back in the good old days' and now, is selective memory combined with instant access to outrage content.

So why does he now think it is time to delve into a current hot topic where he has built in detractors? Why do you want to piss off half the population? I would be very pissed if I was on the board of the studio that gave him the job to make my company money.
Seems like a good question to ask and seek answers on is why is half the population getting pissed off in the first place?
When it comes to movie outrage, mountains have been made out of molehills these last 10 years.

Luckily you can't understand Vedder anyway so it doesn't matter. #MumbleMumble

He learned that from Stipe and REM. Talked about it extensively when he inducted them into the Rock HOF, but didn't seem to realize he mumbles more than Michael.

It's worth a watch. He clearly a fan and does a great job (REM is my favorite band from college days)...

I hate to break it to you, and mean no offense, but it's always been pretty political. They've just changed through the years. Member the red scare and McCarthy going after Hollywood.
I think it started back a little bit before 1999.

I'm not trying to belittle your post; I think it has been going on for quite a while. It only became Paramount in the past 10 years.

The why doesn't matter. Why does this guy keep throwing me curveballs is never the question. It just matters that he does, you know it, and react to it. I can't wish for him to throw fastballs down the middle because that's what I prefer.

he didn’t. Superman is the good guy. Lex luthor is the bad guy. there is no political statement here. He does comment on how outraged we get because of what the internet tells us to be outraged about. Which is funny, considering this discussion.
So he and his brother are lying about the political statement they claim it makes?

If they are, then why? I haven't seen it and will probably wait until it is streaming.

We went to the Jurassic movie and boy was that just a horrible movie.

Hard disagree. Why people are getting so pissed is definitely something to ask and matters.

We have taught our kids the concept that to a large degree, they control how offended they choose to be. Additionally, being able to assess just how important or unimportant an issue actually is(vs how it's being pushed by media) is important.

It matters and it is a significant reason why we are where we are right now, from a societal perspective.

You are not fixing the world's ills TODAY. It might matter in the long run but if you are putting out a movie today or next week you don't say things that in the current climate could piss off 77 million potential customers.

As Michael Jordan once said, "Republicans buy sneakers too"

Watched it and enjoyed it. Marvel has a big fvcking problem imo
Marvel got screwed by Disney demanding content for Disney+, something even Bob Igor has admitted they were wrong about. Half of the shows they’ve made should never have been done and some of the movies too. Also Marvel very rarely has a finished screenplay before they start shooting the movie and they end up piecing it together as they go along or even in post production. Gunn has said that he will always have the screen play written before filming so they get the movie exactly how they want it.

ETA: I think Marvel is suffering from a little fatigue from actual moviegoers. The latest Captain America movie didn’t do well at all in theaters but people are watching the hell out of it on D+ (the movie is pretty mediocre honestly) Thunderbolts I thought was a really good movie but no one went and saw it in the theater.

I like to poke fun at grown men who love superhero movies, but I've seen a ton of them and mostly enjoyed them through the years. Especially the Ironman and Guardians ones, with their charismatic and funny leads.

But I'm honestly extremely tired of them. I don't seek any of them out anymore and may see one if it's easy and just fed to me somewhere.

I can't understand being excited about another 17'n Superman or Batman interpretation, but live and let live...

these next two movies will decide how well marvel is going to do moving forward. Fantastic 4 comes out in a few weeks and then the avengers Dr. Doom movie comes out next Christmas. There is a spider man movie after that one which is guaranteed to print money. If they don’t stick the landing on these next two? They are in trouble. I’m concerned Superman may have stolen fantastic 4’s momentum as well.

and agreed that thunderbolts was really good. It would have made a nice chunk of change if Disney hadn’t shat the bed doing all the stuff they had over the past few years like you described above

I’m scared the Fantastic 4 isn’t going to do well. Maybe it will surprise me but early reactions from previews isn’t promising.

They’re trying to get to Doomsday as fast as possible and then do a reboot and do Xmen.

You understand that there was nothing in the movie itself that would piss off "77 million potential customers," right? The OP posted a hoax that was made up by an online troll who wanted to rile up 77 million people for clicks.

Well, they've beaten Batman to death at the theaters so it's time for Superman.

Yeah, Marvel the Disney+ content has been extensive.
There has been some really entertaining stuff released...and some really unimpressive stuff.

It's interesting that the same overall group can put out such wildly different quality shows under a relatively small banner name.

Loki, Falcon & Winter Soldier, and Hawkeye were solid.
Wandavision was confusing for me for a bit, but good overall once I caught on and remembered some stuff.

No hoax, here's the Smithsonian history of Superman's motto. Research before you post.

Did you honestly read that full article before you linked it?
Curious, since it is Unibomber Manifesto in length.
Neat documentation of the history. I read 1/4 of it then skimmed the rest once I saw how much was left.

People want simplicity. I also loved Thunderbolts.

And Bob might be the most complex character shown just in one MCU movie.

Tony Stark’s character throughout the movies turned out to be complex but it started out much simpler.

What I don’t know if Bob’s character will have a similar opportunity to grow because complexity and sequels don’t really seem to work together.

No, I didn't read the entire thing just the relevant part. I made the original post to start a discussion on the topic and didn't give my opinion one way or the other. Personally, I don't care. Every Director makes changes that fit their view of the way actors should portray characters. This is a discussion board and thought it was an interesting topic.

Because of your OP, a lot of people here now think the phrase "Truth, justice and good things" appears in the new movie when it does not, and then went off on tangents about how "77,000,000 people" are pissed off because of this change.

IMG_0063.jpegI’m This happened in the comics 14 years ago.

also, the creators of Superman in 1938 were the children of Jewish refugees who fled Russia, so like it or not the immigration thing is a huge part of who Superman was meant to be. But once again, I saw absolutely nothing political in the movie. Lex hated Superman because he was an alien, but that is literally who lex has been for forever in the comics. If you want to be offended by a movie that says be kind to each other and do the right thing, you do you. Make sure to tithe at church

I mean a lot of movies have suffered financially due to making dumb statements that amounted to a molehill

That is correct. It should have said "human way" instead of "good things". I hadn't seen the movie and quoted an article that misquoted. I corrected the OP but the motto was changed which was the point.
