Baty got hot for ONE at bat with a one plate appearance single streak

Absolutely BLOWS

Vientos needs a few days off.

Even with two Ks, this was the first game in which it looked to me like Baty had good ABs. I wasn’t surprised when he lined the hit for an RBI late in the game. It may be way too little too late anyway, with McNeill coming back soon. But so be it. By the way, I’m not too keen on Acuna, though. At least Baty has had strong minor league seasons. Acuna didn’t even have that.

Wenninger pitched Friday and went 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 9 K to get the W and bring his E.R.A to 0.90.

Matt Allan pitched Saturday and went 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 0 BB, 3 K with E.R.A of 0.00 still.

It is nice to see some hitters and pitchers doing well at various stages of the farm.

Now, with the parent team. 10-5 with no hitting and a closer who can't close...
My take-
Pitching- Diaz is actually the only current trouble spot. I am giving Holmes time but even as we are letting him adjust, he isn't horrible. Canning- he is doing his job but I can see him improving. Cut down on the walks and he will be a very good number 5 this year. Megill - Is he doing what he has done before? Hot start and then fall apart? Or can he stay stead? Peterson- he has become a very solid 2/3 guy. I never worry when he is starting a game.
Senga- well, when healthy, he is a solid Ace.
The bullpen has been very good.

The hitters- Pete is just raking.
Lindor/Nimmo/Soto seem to be right on the edge of breaking out but we find one of them either getting on base or getting that timely hit when needed. If they find a way to being steady- this offense just becomes so much better.
Siri/Tayor- good thing they can field and run. They suck at bat
Vientos/Baty - Oh man
Acuna - I just don't know...But, he is a guy I want to succeed.
Marte- I'm not sure if Winker is hurt or not but this is another position just killing us.

Catchers- who would have known they would be hitting

McNeil/Alvarez are going to make things interesting around here.

Baty’s glove helps him IMO.

Winker they said was sick with something.

Diaz does not let me relax like a closer should.

Hoping the others in the batting order start to come around.

I really want baty to turn into 2024 vientos

I’m just worried a hit here and there will give organization false hope on player who just isn’t good enough

I'm not sure that I agree that Pete is raking. Rather, I think he's using a smarter approach at the plate, laying off the soft and breaking stuff down and out of the zone and not reaching up for (to my surprise) the high heat. With that, he's just hitting better. Now if he starts raking and maintains this approach, that'll be something.

Huh? .330+ and 40+ HR 60+ doubles 150+ RbI pace isn’t raking?

Correct.

His HRs are examples, particularly the one that he reached out and poked over the right field fence on (I believe) Citifield opening day. He was protecting the plate, both in and out, on a 1-2 count and just poked it over the RF fence. Smart approach, good hitting. He's taken one or two more to RF since then, and he lined the most recent one over the left field fence with top spin, rather than launching a bomb with an uppercut like he has many times in the past. He's also has a lot of hits that weren't hit particularly hard, but his approach was great. He reaches less for the outside pitch, particularly the breaking ball low and away, and he (more often than I expected) lays off the high hard (and often in) stuff out of the zone. It results in him swinging at hittable pitches and getting better results.

You rely on his stats only. I'll rely on what I'm watching too, and I'm seeing results from a significantly improved approach even as he's not particularly hot. If he keeps the approach and gets hot, I expect a surge. But the steady approach will keep him productive all year.

I get what you are saying- he is not just burning lasers. But anyone with 10 XB hits in 15 games and a 1.091 OPS - has to be someone striking fear into an opposing pitcher.
So, while it may not be "technically" raking- his approach and making solid contact which allows for him to just "poke" it over the fence- has just put him into a different level.

except Beltran was one of the best players that has ever worn a Met's uniform, a HOF type player and that one pitch you are referring to was one of the nastiest pitches I have ever seen.

This team has guys batting 100 looking at strike 3.

BTW- our team has been one of the hardest teams to strike out this year.
A HoFer at least swings in that spot. Considering what’s on the line.

I can still see it. 😠

LOL

Never had a particular problem with Beltran being locked up for strike three. That happens. Sometimes the pitcher locks you up, and in that instance it was a pitcher with an all time curveball. Happens.

Would love to see that AB in one of those frames we have to see where the ball crosses the plate. That first strike may have been up and in or may have just caught the black on the upper corner. The 2nd strike- was also just a nasty curve that Carlos fouled off his foot. Took a big beautiful swing on it though.
And that K pitch- looked like it was going to be high and then just dropped it.

And Carlos had such a good series too.

Alvarez hit a HR in Bing. Mcneil was rehabbing in St. Lucie.

Jesus Baez promoted to Brooklyn where he left off last year. He was in St. Lucie for a little so they can check his knee out since he was coming off surgery.

Big bat days for Brooklyn and St. Lucie.

Mets going to try win this one in extras in spite of Soto. If they can get there with Diaz throwing the 9th.
