My Al Bundy moment in sports- in the "minor league" of LL (9-10 years old)-I pitched an immaculate inning. It will be the first item of accomplishment in my obit. 😉
The following year or two later, I gave up 9 runs and 4 home runs in one inning. Either the batters got better, or my pitching got worse.
Why not both? :)

Way too many LOB today. Alcatraz alone had left 5 by the 6th inning.
I'm not content with any version of the lineup that has Jeff McNeil batting 5th. Now that Nimmo is locked back in at the 2 hole that spot is a problem behind Alonso. Neither of Vientos or Baty has shown any consistency. And even Jared Young has gotten some at-bats there. Marte has shown some signs lately so maybe that will continue. Maybe. Something needs to be done to lengthen the lineup beyond the top 4 hitters.

Well, back in ancient times when I played Little League, I would have made that play. That is my frame of reference.
It's not a particularly easy throw when you're a right-handed third-baseman charging and have to throw home home when the runners is moving almost directly into your throw line. That's no doubt why Baty double clutched. It's one of the few plays by a third baseman for which a left hander would be better suited. That said, Baty should have made it. (Imagine Pete having to make that throw . . . .)

Maybe it's time to re-add Kevin Parada to the list? He seems to picking it up at Bingo. His OPS is up to .632. Not that that's good, but three weeks ago it was .375.

Parada will need to be protected next year, or be exposed to the Rule 5 draft. His clock is ticking.

Yeah no problem at all. He's been better the last 30 days but overall it's been a bad year with a 88 wRC+ until today. There is going to be a lot of 40 man adds the next two years. Matt Allan needs to be added as well. Lots will be coming.

Barring some player movement at the big league level I'm starting to think this guy Drew Gilbert will never factor in at the big league level for the Mets. What is he like 25 now? And barely above the Mendoza line at AAA.

I posted this in @colbert17's baseball trivia thread, but figured you guys may have heard this the other night too:

Not a trivia question, but during the Mets broadcast the other night, Gary Cohen said there are only two active players who played in Shea Stadium. One was Kershaw and I forgot the other. Did anyone else hear that? Probably should post this in the Mets thread too.

Yes I did hear that. Hint: he is a former Met, although not when he played at Shea.

Shea closed after the 2008 season, so the person would have to be in his 18th season at minimum.

David Robertson?
Good guess, in that Robertson did pitch in 2008, the last year of Shea. However, he did not appear in a game at Shea. Answer is in the other thread in which you posted.

EDIT: I take it back. Robertson DID pitch in a game at Shea in 2008 - on June 29 for the Yankees. However, he is not currently an active player. He's unemployed, although not officially retired.

I think he can still be helpful as an extra OF. The lost year didn't help.

The value of the haul that the former GM received for the trades of Scherzer and Verlander is still to be decided but trending downward. Clifford has some pop, but he ain't setting the world on fire either. Even Acuna's OPS has recently dropped below .600.

The general question of whether to trade players for prospects or stick with them isn't the important question. Rather, it's whether you have a baseball operation that values and collects good players better than almost all or all of the rest of a league full of experts who are trying to do the exact same thing. The evaluations of Eppler's front office are looking questionable right now from the rear view mirror.

It is possible that the best trade in the 2023 fire sale may turn out to be Eduardo Escobar for one Cameron Crow, who was later flipped for Tyrone Taylor.

Kind of, but not really. A significant intervening event occurred after the Escobar trade: David Stearns was hired. He engineered the Taylor trade. It almost certainly wasn't anything that Eppler had in mind.

Nice if a kid could come up and rake form the start
Ronnie 0-9

Not everyone is going to come up like Pete but can jt take less then a year and half for a kid to hit above 220

Bases loaded no outs and Baty, Alvarez, and Mauricio struck out without even fouling a ball off.. smh

Mauricio .550 in AAA and is 0 for 11 and looks like he’s never swung a bat before.

This is getting to be an unfunny joke at this point. Guess we need to keep watching and hope that someone can hit a home run.

Just think Alvarez was once ranked as the number one overall ranked prospect in baseball before he was called up. Says something about what those rankings are worth.
