Has to be pretty cool to be able to do that. If I lived near Iowa or South Bend, I would definitely `be checking out the Cubs' younger players. They also have an affiliate in Myrtle Beach. That wouldn't be bad either...
I love the way the BlueClaws do it…you get a roster of the opponent with a lot of information. The whole team, not just the regulars.

And I usually check in with @Zak57 first to see who we should be keeping an eye on.

As for spring training…having never been, I was surprised on the access the regular fan gets.

Spring Training is great. See a lot of the behind the scenes stuff so to speak.

I went to Binghamton @ Somerset last night and it's always an enjoyable watch. I was happy to see most of our guys playing except Jett was in the original lineup and then got scratched late. Not too much to report but glad I get to see some of these players live before they make it to the big leagues. Will probably go back Sunday to watch Tong and hopefully Jett back in by then as well.

You know that guy who said "It's on the Internet so it must be true"? He was lying.

Do yourself a favor. Do me a favor. Do us all a favor. Google "New York Porch". Come back with any questions and we'll be happy to assist further.
plus he wouldn't have said that anyway... Yankees fans are notorious for the "Bronx Cheer" LOL

Has there ever been a Mets big ticket free agent signing who has done as well or better in their first year with the Mets as in the previous year or in line with their career norms? Im talking about going back to George Foster.

Ventura, Beltran and Piazza also very good/great. Lindor will be great and Soto will be great as well.
Piazza was via trade, but if big ticket trades count as well, then we also have Olerud, Rickey Henderson, Cespedes and Delgado who were all highly successful in their time here. And if you include star pitchers that the Mets acquired - Santana, Wagner, Scherzer, Diaz, Pedro, Glavine all kicked serious butt here.

Zak- what are your thoughts on Morabito? For some reason, I’m
intrigued by him.
Not a lot of pop, but he’s hitting .280 with 25 doubles and 35 stolen bases.
At 22 years old not sure if he can develop some power or if he kind of is what he is going to be already.

I think he's going to be a fine 3rd/4th OF. CF D is good and he's got good speed. Backup CF in a Taylor mold wouldn't surprise me. Benge and Jett also going to be up for CF time in majors possibly.

Has Mendoza lost his touch with the players or the players self correcting this year after overachieving last year? This team has been up and down since June. It's a tough pill to swallow.

I think there is some truth in that. I think the team did overachieve last year somewhat. They also over performed in the first part of this year, both pitching and hitting, and both have now come back down to earth.

The silver lining is that this streaky team could get hot at any time and go on another tear. Who knows.

Another saving grace is that the newly revamped bullpen appears to be as advertised. Now if they can only get a lead to protect.

Taylor's not all that fast, Marte's not all that slow. TBH I don't know who wins that footrace. I will say that here is where we miss Acuna
Taylor is considered the fastest player on the roster however. With that said just a fine play by Perkins. And some prudent positioning because he was pretty shallow in CF.

All the newly acquired players must wonder if they're a jinx. They've hardly won a game since they're arrived. Maybe one.

This current BP is VERY good. Diaz, Helsley, Garrett, Soto, Raley, Rogers we still worry about Stanek and Hagenman but we have 6 guys that have been pretty much lights out. What I don't like is that our starters just arent getting it done.

Naa that person is right. Taylor is 95th percentile sprint speed in baseball. Marte 26th. I looked last night immediately after the throw out because I had no idea why he didn't PR him.

Correction Marte is 29th percentile, not 26th. Acuna is 96th for comparison to Taylor.

Wow. I had no clue. I wonder how those sprint rates are measured, whether it was based on a single point in time when Marte was hurting. He certainly seems much faster than that, at least to me.

Mendoza was asked about pinch running Taylor, and said that he did not consider it, saying that Marte runs well.

Yeah that wasn't a great answer. Makes him look kinda dumb but he's covering his behind.

Sprint speed is Statcast’s foot speed metric, defined as “feet per second in a player’s fastest one-second window” on individual plays. For a player’s seasonal average, the following two types of plays currently qualify for inclusion in Sprint Speed. The best of these runs, approximately two-thirds, are averaged for a player’s seasonal average.
* Runs of two bases or more on non-homers, excluding being a runner on second base when an extra base hit happens
* Home to first on “topped” or “weakly hit” balls.
The Major League average on a "competitive" play is 27 ft/sec, and the competitive range is roughly from 23 ft/sec (poor) to 30 ft/sec (elite).

And then if you want more info.

Some brief minors highlights from last night.

Clifford hit #24. Really turning the corner lately it seems.

Jett fantastic as usual 3-for-4, BB, 3 R, 3 SB. Benge 1/4 with a 2B. Santucci 6 IP 2 R 1 ER 2 H 3 BB 6 K.

Noah Hall another underrated pitcher we have right lowering his ERA to 2.08. 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB 7 K.

Jon Jiminez recently promoted from FCL to StL a really good start.

4.1 IP 3 H 0 R ER 0 BB 4 K 0 HR 0.87

By this time next year, one of those players will be the starting CF. Another could be the starting 2B. And depending on whether they re-sign Alonso...

Just for fun I looked up the Speed percentiles of the Mets 13 active position players.

Tyrone Taylor - 95
Cedric Mullins - 81
Brandon Nimmo - 48
Francisco Lindor - 47
Brett Baty - 42
Luis Torrens - 31
Starling Marte - 29
Francisco Alvarez - 19
Mark Vientos - 19
Jeff McNeil - 18
Juan Soto - 16
Ronny Mauricio - 14
Pete Alonso -12

CONCLUSIONS:

1) This team is really slow.
2) These numbers are at least somewhat inaccurate.
3) Both of the above.

Vientos has to be at bottom of the list. Slowest guy I can recall - maybe late day Staub a step slower

Are we close to discussing whether or not we might be accused of rushing some of the kids up or should we continue to hold them down? It might be worth the risk since the team is clearly playing flat at the current time.

My $.02. I don't think any of the position players are ready. I think at some point, we could see Sproat or McLean, or maybe both. However, Stearns has made it clear (and I agree) that they won't come up just because we need a spot starter. When they do get here, it will be with the expectation that they will stay here.

Not even “thinking” about having Taylor run is ridiculous . Mendoozy’s own words

Not giving Nimmo a day or two off when he has STRUCK OUT 26 TIMES IN 52 AB’s shows you Mendoza is lost

you’re the boss:.. probably should’ve had following convo 3 weeks ago “Hey Lindy , you’re 1-800 after you injured your toe , you’re off today , tomorrow is day off for team , then you will DH until doc says there is some improvement in your foot .

Baty if you miss one of those grounders playing it sideways you will be sent to cuse

Mauricio if you don’t get in front of ball you will join Baty in cuse
