Since this is a day ending in Y, the Mets made a pitching transaction, Alex Carrillo, a 28 year old late bloomer who had been lights out in Syracuse, is up. Zach Pop has gone the way of Soda Popinski. No word yet on Snap and Crackle.

The MLB record for total number of pitchers used in a season is 42. Mets are already at 35. Carrillo will make 36. Then Manaea and Raley get us to 38. We've got a shot.

That's harsh. He missed a bases clearing double by a couple of feet. The 3-2 fastball that beat him was an elite pitch. Started out outside and came back. Sometimes the other guy wins.
Mea culpa. I just would have liked to have seen him try to at least spoil it and force him to have to throw another pitch in the zone again where there is a better chance to get one you can lift. I always feel like the pressure is on the pitcher in those situations. I was just very worried that the lead would get away from them and it would have been a crushing feeling after fighting back to get the lead. But hell of a job by Brazoban so I was very happy. I was like Jeff McNeil happy after a big hit.

Jon Heyman reporting that Luisangel Acuna is returning to the Mets.

Unclear if he is just coming back for today's DH as 27th man, or if the move is longer term, and if the latter, who will be sent down.

I don't want to trade any top tier prospects at the deadline, because I don't think any trade of that magnitude is necessary. I'd prefer one or two relatively cheap rentals.

IMO the time to make any major deals is the off-season, without pressure of deadlines.
Well, that depends on whether they are really top tier prospects. I'm comfortable in trusting Stearns and his team in making these evaluations.

What deal should the Mets make? A good one. That's all I can really add.

None of us know the nature of the conversation between Mendoza and Peterson, and exactly how much Peterson had left in the tank.

Bullpen reinforcements cant arrive soon enough. Not much trust in the guys in front of Diaz.
Yeah if Mendy had Raley available, the outcome may have been different. We will never know.

The question is, should Mendy have had Lovelady or Waddell ready?

In hindsight sure. But at the end of the day those guys are also just band-aids on a 8 stitch gash. What we need is lock down setup guy. One who is consistent and reliable against lefties and righties alike. Hate to use a Yankee comparison but we need our John Wetteland. Not to be bringing in a guy with an era over 4 who has been bad as much as he's been good.

Not hindsight. Gary and Keith raised this at the start of the inning. By bringing in a righty, Mendy unlocked the O's lefty bench.

Lock down setup guys are hard to find.

They scored one run. Everything past the 4 hole in the line up and from the farm system has been a disappointment so far. The 5-9 slots are going to have to start hitting.

Blame Stearns for keep shuffling in slugs like Lovelady, Waddell, etc who the manager doesn't feel like he can trust in key spots. And with good reason. Against lefties, against righties against anyone. The bum of week approach is in full effect. Sure injuries have played a part but there are a whole lot of very bad teams who didn't want guys like the Mets are counting on. So why would a team that fancies itself as contenders keep signing them?

It's often said that the most sucessful teams always have and reach the goal of dominating at home and playing at a .500 clip on the road. But let's face it this has now become a poor team on the road. They now have almost identical road records as the Nationals and Athletics.

Barring further injuries (which cannot be ruled out) I think we have seen our last of the bullpen games. For the first time all year, we will have the starting rotation that was envisioned in the off season. Senga, Peterson, Manaea, Holmes, Montas.

That said, it sure looks like McLean and Sproat are ready. So, what to do? Go to a six man rotation to protect Senga and Holmes? Put one or both of the young guns in the pen?

I know I am an optimist, but these seem like good problems.

My trade wish list, in priority order:

1) Best bat available.
2-999) Best bat available.
1000) Still best bat available.

I suspect I am in the minority on this, but... I do believe that with Senga, Manaea, and Raley returning, and McLean and Sproat at the ready, additional arms are a nice-to-have. But an additional bat is a must-have.

I agree that, with pitching coming back, the bigger priority seems to be the black hole that starts to appear once we get passed the number 4 hitter.

I agree I want the best bat available, preferably for CF (or 3rd base if vientos/baty/mauricio can't improve).

I do think we need a lefty bullpen arm, or a righty who can get lefties out. Our bullpen is showing warts big time
