The question I have after looking at Soto's and Ohtani's contracts vs LT on sportrac - starting in 2034- when he starts getting paid $68 mil per year and that goes toward the LT- does any of that $68 mil count as payroll, thus, putting them into the Cohen tax threshold or and causing multipliers toward any other signings?

We all know Soto is a big part of it but could you imagine if the Mets did what so many fans, including quite a few on here wanted. Vientos at 1B and Baty at 3B.
This is why Alonso is more important to the Mets than any other team. He could go anywhere else and just be a slugging 1B and get to 500 and just not be as special as staying and getting 500 here.
But even Soto- he pays for himself. And as much as so many have knocked him this year..,except for BA- he is actually having a pretty productive year. RBI are down but runs are up. Good chance he still ends up with 110 runs and 90 rbi…
I don't understand your second paragraph. The 2025 Alonso would be extremely valuable to anyone. The 2024 Alonso would be moderately valuable to anyone.
Reading between the lines, my GUESS is that your message is "Alonso is more valuable to us that anyone else. Therefore, we should pay him more than anyone else would." Not sure Stearns would buy that.

Alonso having an Alonso year is special. 2024, not so much. So, paying him for a long term contract may not have been smart. As there was a question of if he was on the downslide. This year shows he is not and most likely has some more of these years in him. Plus, we have now signed Soto. Lindor/Soto for the next foreseeable future without something else, ehhh…if we didn’t sign Soto and we only had Lindor/Alonso, ehhh- but Lindor/Soto and a Pete chasing legendary power numbers- sells a lot of tickets.
And going back to this year alone- Lindor/Soto without Pete, we are not in first and boring as hell.
The weekday crowds have been a lot better this year and that's with this crappy weather on most nights.
It is also an exciting team. There is a chance this Mets team could start doing what the mid late 80’s teams did and just create a buzz everywhere they go

Should be by the end of June for Jett, Benge, Reimer, maybe Clifford and some others. They have a lot of internal metrics that we don't know about that they use to judge promotions but obviously since they're doing so well they're probably hitting them. They also might be waiting for some of the leagues with first half champions to get those locked in.
Ewing was already promoted once this season from StL to Brook so he might be a little longer even though he's still doing great.
I didn't realize that. Saw them recently and all looked pretty good. But you also have to factor in the circumstances of when they made the deal and the return they eventually got from the Yankees for him too.
I am that's why it's so important to keep King. If they can hold onto him for 5 years as a top of the rotation guy it takes the sting away a little. Outside of that not much return:

Higgy - gone
Johny Brito - UCL surgery, career in doubt
Randy Vazquez - good #4 starter
Drew Thorpe - was part of the package that brought Dylan Cease to SD, but I doubt that he'll be back next year

Back in the COVID year of 2020, Yankee fans argued that Voit was the best 1B in the city. Voit did have some insane numbers that year. 52 RBI in 56 games.
Agree - King is key and if Cease somehow returns. But sometimes you make deals based on where the team is at the time: Cubs trade Cease and Eloy Jimenez for Quintana in 2017. The only reason the Cubs get to their third straight NLCS with a chance to go back to the WS that year was Quintana. He was solid after that but not great. At the time it looked like the Cubs gave up too much.
