No, McLean is the first Met rookie pitcher to win his first three starts. Was Gelbs' post game interview comment correct? First Mets rookie pitcher to start his career 3-0?
OK, and if I said rookie "starting" pitcher to start his career 3-0, the statement would be correct? No, McLean is the first Met rookie pitcher to win his first three starts.
No, your statement would probably not be correct.OK, and if I said rookie "starting" pitcher to start his career 3-0, the statement would be correct?
Or has there been a rookie Mets pitcher who went 3-0 in pitching appearances that did not include starts?
That's quite an accomplishment then. Thanks for clarifying. No, your statement would probably not be correct.
There have probably been Met starters who have started their career 3-0, but have had no-decisions interspersed. McLean won his first three starts.
Couldn't swear to that, but I assume it is true, since Gelbs specified "first three starts".
Baseball Almanac says Jerry Koosman went 4-0 in 1968, his rookie season:Ladies and gentlemen, Nolan Mclean!!!
First Mets starter to win his first 3 major league starts yes.

True I went through it quick.Actually, 9 appearances, but only 3 starts.
Gelbs was 100% right. The Mets had it up on the scoreboard as well.According to MLB, 1967 did not qualify as his rookie season? In 1967 he had 22.1 Innings pitched.
"A player shall be considered a rookie unless he has exceeded any of the following thresholds in a previous season (or seasons):
• 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues."

Sorry for being pedantic, and not detracting from McLean's phenomenal start, but I was a bit incredulous with what Gelbs said, but maybe he was right?
1968 was Koosman's rookie season. He finished second in ROY voting that year, behind Johnny Bench. But for purposes of the discussion that is irrelevant. Were the "rookie" rules in effect in 1968?
So Koosman's 1967 season does not count against him because 1968 was his rookie season?
Gelbs was 100% right. The Mets had it up on the scoreboard as well.
You're considered a rookie until you pass that threshold. As Koosman's first two starts were 0-2 he was automatically out for this stat after he lost his first game as a SP.

Gelbs said that McLean was the first Met pitcher to win his first three starts. He said nothing about rookie status.
Da *** current rehab is on his right thumb but hit on left hand tonight
This is the last year of his deal. He's a FA.What is Marte’s contract status for next year?
it’s funny, starting the year, I don’t think a single fan would have been upset to trade both of them. But damn, both guys have been super solid.
And if Baty/Vientos keep this up- outside of signing Pete, I would love to go into next year with our core as it is.
You can't make this up.
A big if...but IF Baty/Vientos/McNeil/Marte keep hitting, we can afford to have the one spot in the lineup that isn't so good, as long as they play defense like Torrens can. Our playoffs will most likely all depend on our pitching staff. Would be great if Tong can start off like McLean has. It may be hard to duplicate but if he is even close to the other kid...2-3 days or 2-3 weeks?
Shame as we need Alvarez !
Would be tough to go deep in playoffs with Torrens / Senger

Really need Manaea to get his groove on though. Would love to have the ability to give Senga and Holmes more rest.
