The weird thing about Helsley is that while he was up and down in 2025, he was lights out in July. He was pitching his best baseball of the season just as the Mets acquired him. No one could have predicted how terrible he'd be.

Yeah my guess is he definitely will be. They cleared a few guys from the minors in the deadline trades to open up more space also. I think they only need to protect like a few guys so it shouldn't be a problem.
No, not at all. Parada earned his promotion by performing very well from mid season on.
While his prospect status has diminished greatly from when we drafted him he's built himself back up a bit this season. Reports are his D has improved and his bat came around the last two months. He's played himself back into at least maybe getting a backup C which in the context of things stinks but also better than the total flame out he was looking like. It's also very possible he keeps improving next year as well.
How can anyone, much less a guy with almost 50 saves last year become worse than a position player on the mound?
OK- he throws 100 mph. Hitter knew what Rivera, Sutter, etc were throwing on every single pitch. Closers are not 4-5 pitch guys- 1 or 2 pitches and just make them good. And how is it they had no idea what he is throwing before he got here.
Well the good news is that the O's finished off a road sweep of San Diego so we didn't lose any ground there. Also Toronto is leading Cinncy by 3 runs going into the 9th. So hopefully that holds and they will fall back to 5 behind. But one other team that we suddenly have to concern ourselves with are the Giants who can close within 4 games if they finish off another win over the Rockies in a game they lead 4-0 in the middle innings.
Alvarez grand slam for Syracuse tonight. He has caught two full games in a row. Barring an unexpected setback, he will be in the starting lineup on Friday in Cincinnati.
Padres have been pitiful for the last two weeks.
Add to that Xander is out to at least the postseason (if there is one), Jason Adam is done for the year, Tatis is striking out at a ridiculous rate, Merrill has done nothing since his return and things aren't boding well for the team that plays on the corner of Tony and Trevor.
The chance of this happening before Pete hitting free agency may not be zero, but it rounds to zero.

So tipping pitches isn’t a bad thing? That’s pretty big news. Someone should have told that to the Astros, and they wouldn’t have wasted their time.
so- my point is- did he only just start tipping pitches since he got to the Met's- he was lights out in the month before getting here. And for a closer type guy- they usually rely on 2 pitches anyway. Their pitch just has to be damn good. Mo had basically 1 pitch for almost 20 years, same with a guy like Sutter.
What the Astro's did, as did the Yankees, BoSox and many other teams- was much different. If you are tipping a guy who has 4-5 pitches, that is huge.
Anyway- I am not sure it is tipping, it is that he just throws the damn thing hard and straight
He has not taken them away but eased it a bit. Prior to his past month since Alvarez went down again, we all thought this was a guy how was just an auto out. He has now shown that it is actually possible that he can get a big hit for us. Doesn't take anything away but eases it just a bit.
BTW- It is amazing that outside of BA - Soto has really closed the gap on Judges MVP numbers...And that is not a knock on Judge but a WHOA on Soto. I feel that he and Schwarber are more deserving of the NL MVP than that DH over in LA. But, you know who will win it regardless. Lindor is also pretty much putting up the same numbers as last year where he was heavily considered for MVP.
Nothing’s changed. Maybe you had a perception that a bad hitter never hits, which isn’t true. Sometimes they hit. Just not nearly enough. And that remains true for Torrens.
If your point is that you can’t be sure that he’s tipping pitches, I can’t be sure either. On the other hand, if your point is that tipping pitches is not a serious problem for a pitcher, we still disagree, and I refer you back to my first post.

My son and I met a young guy who was catching at Spring Training. For the life of me I can’t remember his name.
I’ve even looked online hoping to see familiar face but no luck.
