Think of it this way, Zak…No one really cares about that dip **** or what you think so please don't quote me. Thanks!
Yes quoting the dumb Wfan people certainly does. That's some low level stuff right there.Think of it this way, Zak…
Nerd quoting Nerds. Says much more about him than anything else.
Why do you not trust Scott Boras? He is trustworthy. He is exactly who he presents himself to be - the guy who will squeeze out every last dollar for his clients. That is why he has so many clients.Hope you are right but don’t trust Pete’s agent. Pete said all the rightt things, loves the Mets, loves NYC.
I would add that initial personnel moves to make are to dump / trade McNeil / Stanek etc - dead weight.Putting misery and rage aside for a moment, here is what I think:
1) Stearns isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Cohen waited two years for him. He is here for a long time.
2) What could (and I think will) happen is that Stearns will hire a General Manager. That was the plan all along and I am not sure why it hasn't happened yet.
3) Pretty sure Mendoza will be back, albeit on the hot seat. If the Mets have the same start that they had in 2023, he could be in serious trouble. Their bench coach, John Gibbons, could step in at mid season as interim manager. Not only does he have almost 800 managerial wins, he is a former Met who caught Sidd Finch.
4) I can see Hefner getting the ax. His pitching lab philosophy, based on better to nibble than to challenge, seems to have run its course.
5) I think it's a coin flip as to whether Chavez and Barnes go. This team DID hit in 2025, at least there are a ton of statistics that say they did. But Chavez's emphasis on keeping things simple, which de-emphasizes situational hitting, may also have run its course.
6) As far as personnel decisions, I think Cohen will leave that to Stearns, and will open the checkbook when Stearns asks him to. I don't think there will be any more Soto type signings which was pretty much all Cohen
Jett Williams ?Obviously Lindor and Nimmo will also be back, whether we want them or not.
As far as the prospects go, there are only four whom I consider untouchable: McLean, Tong, Benge, and Pena. Anyone else, I'm willing to listen, although you probably wouldn't meet my price.
100% expected but why announce it today after an epic collapse ?As expected, Alonso has announced that he will opt out.
Marte is a FA and will not be back. Stanek is a FA and will not be back. McNeil maybe but don't think they'll get anything for him. If they start him for a few months while they transition to Jett that might work as well. He has only 2026 left with a club option after that.I would add that initial personnel moves to make are to dump / trade McNeil / Stanek etc - dead weight.
I’d add Marte but he seems to be Soto buddy.
With what starting pitchers and with what clubhouse leadership?I know mostly everyone might disagree with me but the arrow is still pointing up with this franchise. This season sucked balls and if Shakespeare were writing it I'm not sure if this is a drama or comedy. Lots of blame to go around and a twinge of baseball gods having a good time with us. I'm really really disappointed but when I think with my head and not my heart we're still in an overall excellent spot and I still believe we're going to get a ship finally within a few years.
Josh Naylor is a pretty good 1bFarm system very good. Already benefitted with players like Tong McLean Sproat Mauricio. Question becomes do the Mets continue to build the youth movement with Benge Jett etc? Pete already gone so need a first basemen. Not sure I trust anyone on our current roster so either sign free agent or trade a chip. I still believe in Peterson. Go sign an Ace. Mclean, Tong Sprout will be just fine. Wild card is Senga. Can he figure it out after his injuries. Will have off season to figure it out.
No more McNeil. Don’t want to see him in a Mets uniform in spring training.Marte is a FA and will not be back. Stanek is a FA and will not be back. McNeil maybe but don't think they'll get anything for him. If they start him for a few months while they transition to Jett that might work as well. He has only 2026 left with a club option after that.
The leadership thing doesn't make sense to me. Didn't we have great leaders in 24 with that fun season? It's all the same people basically. With what starting pitchers and with what clubhouse leadership?
Only 2 starters I am optimistic on are McLean and Tong and latter is 1-2 years away !
He announced it because he was asked.100% expected but why announce it today after an epic collapse ?
Could this announcement have waited until tomorrow?
No problem! McNeil is $17 mil so I do agree he's better off as a utility bench guy at this point. Not sure where they'll go there. Eat the money, eat some money and trade him for nothing, roll with him for a little etc.No more McNeil. Don’t want to see him in a Mets uniform in spring training.
He blocks the young kids and his skills have vastly eroded.
Thought Marte had another year but thanks for the clarification
I do like Jett Williams. But to me the term "untouchable" is a very high bar. Meaning I am unwilling to even engage in discussions about these guys. And to repeat, IMHO the Mets have only four prospects who meet this high bar: McLean, Tong, Benge, and Pena.Jett Williams ?
Are you not high on him?
I care about 25% about this. I think it was dumb he answered it. Diaz was asked and said he'll discuss with his family. In the end I really didn't care but I see why it's going to ruffle feathers for some.He announced it because he was asked.
The prospect hugger I am has my list a lot longer.I do like Jett Williams. But to me the term "untouchable" is a very high bar. Meaning I am unwilling to even engage in discussions about these guys. And to repeat, IMHO the Mets have only four prospects who meet this high bar: McLean, Tong, Benge, and Pena.
Sorry to hear it's been a terrible year for you. In times of personal crisis, things that might otherwise seem small can get magnified. I totally get that.Mets re-sign Pete
Steal Suarez from Phillies
June 10th Mets 6 games up in division
You gonna be over the moon with excitement and full of confidence ?????
Not a great year
Knicks blowing 9 pt lead in 40 secs
Hughes not signed
Mets collapse
Basketball missing tourney
Nabers blows out knee
Rutgers had a chance to be 5-0 and the talk of the town during their bye week but lost 2 incredibly frustrating games
In life All of the above really doesn’t meanbut some joy would be nice.
It’s been a terrible year on personal level and I was hoping Mets could help provide an escape from some the heartache for just a few moments.
There is an off- season thread here. But since he did not start it, Tango does not look like he will lock this thread. Maybe tomorrow.@Tango Two Fire up that off-season thread now!![]()
In 24 - you had guys in the clubhouse such as Iglesias / Winker / Bader / Quintana - veterans and players who played with emotion. The leadership thing doesn't make sense to me. Didn't we have great leaders in 24 with that fun season? It's all the same people basically.
Starting pitching next year is going to be interesting for sure. Do we think Manaea stunk this year because of injury or came back to earth? Senga makes no sense to me so that I have no idea. I do know we'll have under contract and probably healthy those two plus McLean, Sproat, Tong, Scott, Peterson, and Holmes. Pretty good depth but maybe you want more of a veteran ace? They'll have to trade or sign one.
He should have deferred answering the question - just like Diaz.He announced it because he was asked.
From a report I read, Diaz wasn't just being polite or diplomatic. He is legitimately undecided. My guess is that he will try to negotiate an extension before the free agency period begins in November. He has done it before. Probably won't require more money. Two additional years would likely do it. Maybe just one.He should have deferred answering the question - just like Diaz.
Was not the right time
To me it sounded quite selfish.
Don't forget JD Martinez who seemed to be a mentor to Vientos and regressed this year without him.In 24 - you had guys in the clubhouse such as Iglesias / Winker / Bader / Quintana - veterans and players who played with emotion.
It seemed Those attributes were lacking this year!
SP is a mess.
Senga is a headcase and injury prone.
Maneaa came back to earth. I’d bet 24 was an aberration
Peterson is untrustworthy
Holmes a ?
A reliable sure thing SP minimally is needed. - no experiments that Stearns yearns for.
In breaking news Montas is out for all of 2026 with TJ surgery and then his contract is done.Get rid of Manea, Montas, and Senga . Get an ACE at any cost that can win more games then these 3 bums combined.
Just shows the lack of grit as well as lack of a clutch gene that this team was inflicted with.Wow. Mets finished 0-for-70 when trailing entering the ninth inning. Hard to believe that's even statistically possible.
NY Mets left to pick up pieces after they don't make 2025 MLB playoffs
Agree with this. We fans look at the wrong stuff and put emotion into it. If you pitch better, suddenly you have great leaders . . .The leadership thing doesn't make sense to me. Didn't we have great leaders in 24 with that fun season? It's all the same people basically.
. . .
He's an expensive utility guy. That may be how they use him. Or they eat money and trade him.No problem! McNeil is $17 mil so I do agree he's better off as a utility bench guy at this point. Not sure where they'll go there. Eat the money, eat some money and trade him for nothing, roll with him for a little etc.
Pitching was lacking this year. Iglesias had an OPS under.600 this year. I wonder how his emotion would have played with you while he couldn't hit a lick.In 24 - you had guys in the clubhouse such as Iglesias / Winker / Bader / Quintana - veterans and players who played with emotion.
It seemed Those attributes were lacking this year!
. . .
Pete's a good guy but far from a genius. He should have deferred answering the question - just like Diaz.
Was not the right time
To me it sounded quite selfish.
