Wenberg wasn't top of my list, but I don't mind that price. Hopefully, they can get an RW at a reasonable price. Vatrano would be a good fit, BUT I hate the price tag. Duclair??

They needed center depth. I want nothing to do with any of the RWs. I don't see it as a need / hole worth filling.

It would be horrible if they got Guentzel. That would likely be the 1st and Othmann headed the other way for a rental.
Think the price would be too high, and long term, no interest in helping the Penguins' rebuild.
Wouldn't be horrible if it got them a cup. Rangers have this year and next to really go for it. Windows in the NHL are small, you need to capitalize when you have the chance.
However, seeing some legit speculation on buchnevich coming back to the rangers, crazy

Too many players in the top 6 who are talented but play on the perimeter. They can’t generate enough scoring when the defenses get tighter and the game gets more physical.
Word is that Buch doesn’t want to come back even if they wanted him.
Thats speculation about buch. He loved NY and didnt wanna be traded and hates drury for trading him. Hes come back in a nanosecond if he could
Yeah I don't see window either and want nothing to do with Geuntzel (or another RW who won't be capable of saving the crappiest 2nd line in the league).
The story I have heard a lot, which is unproven but fits the details of what happened, is-
That car accident that Buch and Igor were in at the trade deadline that last year involved alcohol. The incident started the idea that Buch, who Igor hung out with a lot, was a bad influence on him. At the end of the year Dolan insisted that Drury get rid of Buchnevich.
It makes sense given that the Rangers rushed to get rid of Buchnevich, which made no sense at the time and still doesn’t, which helped to create the bad deal they got.
If they were seriously considering going after Guentzel I would much rather they go even bigger and go after Tuch who was rumored to be available.
He is the type of forward they need and has two more years at $4.75
They got rid of buch because the eichel to nyr deal was supposedly done and then pegula pulled the plug last minute
Have heard similar. Part that's toughest for me to grasp is Dolan knowing wtf Pavel Buchnevich is/was.
That’s the story the Rangers have leaked to try and justify how bad the Buch trade was, but an Eichel trade that didn’t even end up happening until 4 months later in November doesn’t explain why the Rangers couldn’t wait 10 days and trade Buch AFTER the free agency period was open for a while.
Even at the time the Rangers used the argument that there was a limited market for Buch. Of course there was, because they traded him 5 days before the free agency period started and who is going to trade assets for a winger when they have a chance to acquire one for just cash a few days later?
Guentzel is a great player who’d help Kreids and Mika 5 on 5 just as Panarin would if he were moved up.
Guentzel is in a different league than Tank, an old Kane, or Vatrano.
Conner Mackey in their own back yard had a flawless strong performance in the one game he played with zero giveaways.
You can go 7 and 11 and plug him in especially in 3rd periods.. I’d figure out a rotation for 4th line

I’m not trading Othmann, the 24 first rounder and a roster player to a division rival for a rental. Especially when adding that rental still doesn’t make us better than Florida or Vegas (who will be icing a loaded roster in the playoffs again when they are done with all of their LTIR stuff).
That is the type of trade package that needs to bring back someone with term.
The reality is we are a very good hockey team but will not win the Stanley Cup for two extremely obvious reasons, we can’t get out of our own end and we allow way to much speed through the neutral zone.
Lack of puck pressure on the offensive zone, lack of puck pressure in the defensive zone.
Our best forward by far gets bottled up by the top puck pressure teams 5 on 5.
So for those reasons Krup makes sense, but it’s Drury’s job to believe they can win Stanley this year…isn’t it?
I think it is his job to build a Stanley Cup winner in general, not specifically this year. The problem is that the Rangers require some reworking to turn this team into one that can get all the way, and I don’t see them making the tough player decisions it would take.
This strategy of chasing your tail by making deadline adds of rentals every year will work as well as it did pre “letter” (which is not at all).

There was brooks article few weeks ago that said something along lines of only 2 teams in last 15-20 years won cup that traded first round pick right before deadline. And IIRC one of them included an extension for player so wasn't a rental.
I think it's almost always bad asset management to trade firsts for rentals, but with this team, it shouldn't be considered.

Those two are more dangerous killing penalties.
It might just be putting one of the best 5 on 5 offensive creators in hockey on their right wing in Laff. 2RW can be duclair and panarin will carry that line
I'm hopeful the addition of Wenberg will provide that line with some relief from always being tasked with difficult match-ups / defensive zone starts which would marginally help. More broadly though, it's as simple as them needing to up their intensity and willingness to battle for pucks / go to the front of the net. That's why I don't think there's some magic answer at RW that can turn their games around. It's also why I'm not optomistic about this team's post season chances and don't want to effectively dispose of the limited non-roster assets they have.
Point is we can get him and we if dont land guentzel, buch or vatrano then this should be our route
I'm beginning to feel that playing on the same line was slipped into their contracts. It's mind-numbing.
I’m think Laf could be good on the Mika line but I hate taking him from where is now. He is the best fit we have had on Panarin’s RW since we had Fast.
aka best fit ever. However, panarin has proven he can make non skill guys like colin blackwell and fast look dynamic playing with him. Laff, troch and panarin are our 3 best puck carriers when it comes to zone entries so maybe it makes sense to move laff to spark zib and kreider
It’s a pretty pathetic situation that we need to microanalyze what RWs our top 6 centers and LWs can succeed with. You would think that when you are paying 4 guys almost 40% of your cap they should be able to play with pretty much anybody.
THAT’S why I am skeptical about this group’s chances regardless of who we add. We built around guys who are paid like top players, but aren’t as consistent or “self sufficient” as the top players on the teams who are real contenders.
Troch and panarin can play with anyone. Kreider and Mika just total suck 5v5. However, Wennberg will now draw other teams 1st lines as he's a pretty good defensive center and that will hopefully provide better matchups for mika and kreider but we'll see. Mika is too much of a euro ***** for my liking. I hate the sulking ******** he does. Also, kreider needs to start playing like he's 6'3 230. He needs to stop pulling up on the forecheck. It's almost like he's afraid to hit guys
I don’t like that Mika plays soft, but I give him more of a pass for doing it because he had a pretty scary run of concussions similar to what Chytil is dealing with now. I didn’t want to extend him for that reason, though.
There is no excuse for how Kreider plays. He has the body to be one of the true power forwards in the league and plays nothing like it except for the tip ins in the power play.
