I lived in KC area for 15 years. Voted by Men's Magazine as best restaurant in the USA. It's going to open a restaurant in the Heymarket area this summer. I will camp out a week before to be 1st in line. Best burnt ends and beans in the world. This has been a daily prayer for years!!!

Yub. It's the bomb. Not my top pick for BBQ in the KC area, but it's really close. Been there dozens of times. Never disappointed.

One of our favs for sure. In KC, prepare to stand in line but it is worth in. The ribs are killer, never disappointed.

The best beans are Hickory Hut in Salina, KS, hands down. When I ran the college here in town my administrative assistant would order food for our evening meetings. Standing orders for using Hickory Hut was ALWAYS get the beans. One night she forgot and the next day I called her into my office and told her how much I appreciated her work and there was only one thing that could get her fired and that was to NOT order their beans. We still laugh about that one.

Kansas City and OK Joes have split financially and operationally. This will have no affiliation with the KC part. Still a lot of the same ideas, but in more of a franchise way.

Yes...curious if they can use similar recipes or not. I've been to Joe's (formerly Oklahoma Joe's) in KC a ton. However, I've never eaten at Oklahoma Joes in OK or DC. My gut says people will be lined up no matter what (altho Phat Jack's burnt ends haven't ever let me down, and I believe they're expanding with two new locations here in Lincoln too).

Phat Jacks has great burnt ends. Their other menu items are (imo) not up to KC bbq places like SmokeHouse, & KC Joes. Still it hits the spot when your 3 hours from KC.

Please let this happen. Supposedly they are eyeing a store in the Haymarket area. While it is not my overall favorite in KC, it runs circles around most of what Lincoln and Omaha offers for mass produced bbq.

Sorry, did not see other thread.

I hope the owner (original co-owner) brings back the original menu. When you got your meat in a basket on top of butcher paper. Then they threw half a loaf of white bread at your table, some pickles, and whatever sides you ordered.
Joe's K.C. is still good, but now they have all the sandwiches and fries. Just like Kaz36 says at all tailgates "just give me all the meat!!"

There was/is a place in Omaha that does that! Was it called "Fo-jays" maybe?

You can still order meat by-the-pound. That's what I do. Skip the bread. Carbs are evil.

I love burnt ends, for those of you that do BBQ what exactly is it or how do you make it?

Part of the brisket ,generally but Ive seen other meats used such as ham.

I can make ribs, pulled pork and chicken pretty well in my opinion. Brisket and burnt ends are a glaring weakness in my bbq skill set. Cant get them right. I'd also welcome any insight from experts

We definitely need more good BBQ in Lincoln. Lippy's in Malcolm beats anything currently in Lincoln IMO.

Wish we had a Hickory Park here, it's an awesome BBQ place in Ames, IA. Huge portions for a cheap price, too. Almost makes me miss us being in the Big 12.

Tom took me and the boys out to OK Joes last Friday. You won't find better beans and their baby backs are always delectable. I grew up on Texas barbecue but this is way better than anything you will find in Texas.

Different strategies, originally it was just shavings off the edges, irregular pieces of the outside. As they became more popular many places with separate the point from the flat after smoking, then will re-rub the point and cook another few hours. A few places do the flat extra time as well. I prefer Burnt Ends from the point, smoked an extra few hours, more fat which produces a more tender finished product.

Still a bigger fan of Gates' sauce, but will drive to Lincoln from Omaha for Okie Joe's.

Lincoln sure seems able to attract better casual restaurants than when I lived there 15+ years ago. Back then the addition of a second Famous Dave's would have been cause for city-wide jubilation.

Famous Dave's is another place that I can't believe keeps its doors open. That's some really bad BBQ.

The tall glasses of beer probably help. If you get drunk enough, nearly anything becomes edible. Winking

I think they won multiple ribfest awards in lincoln before they opened the pine lake location. Havent been there in a few years. Is it really that bad now?

The bbq in Longwells is pretty good, and hopcat is just bar good with a bunch of beer on tap.
Walk 2 blocks and go to Single barrel. Get a ribeye, and a couple fingers of one of their better bourbons available. You're welcome.

This was in the wrong thread. Supposed to be in the railyard places to eat thread.

I'm a Lippy's guy myself! I prefer the dry brown sugar rub! They call their burnt ends...meat marshmellows! Better that any chain. Phat Jacks is my second favorite! Plus these are local family owned businesses! Make America Great Again!

I don't think Famous Dave's is that bad for a chain restaurant BBQ. Heck...it's still BBQ.

Personal favorite is LC's in Kansas City. There's about an inch of grease on the floor.

I only eat Famous Dave's if it's catered into a meeting or something like that. It doesn't take away my will to live or anything, but it always strikes me as the Olive Garden of barbecue joints - lots of sauce lathered over mediocre ingredients.
