United States Department of Justice issued a press release today describing the crimes committed by the law school's assistant dean and the sentence imposed on her.

Numerous embezzlement scams went on for 1 4 years, 1999-2022. Hobbs was dean there from 1999-2015, Ironically, at the same time, Hobbs served on the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation.

* Edit - correct the dean date range from 2009-2015 to 1999-2015.

And this is a Rutgers problem because ????
Pat Hobbs is under both internal and external investigations for his behavior at Rutgers.

His past oversight role at another New Jersey university shows that people who worked in his department were stealing money.

TKR has reported Pat's replacement for the athletic director position will not be hired until the investigations are complete. That could take a long time, impairing the operations of the Rutgers athletic department operating without a permanent leader.

Hobbs was Dean from 1999 to 2015. And she was an employee of the law achool. If you are going to spout off, at least be correct. Libel is a thing.

Thank you for pointing out. I corrected and mentioned the correction. Shouldn't have got that date wrong - 3 Rutgers friends attended Seton Hall Law in early 2000s and we lived together for 2 of their years there. I recall them talking about Dean Hobbs all the time but don't remember what they were saying about him.

stupid correlation by OP but......

RU needs to start hiring outside of NJ, we're not unique or special and need to get out of this mentality. All future hires need to be from legit BIG programs and with extensive experience.

It's nice to say, but the Political scum in this state like to dig their grubby little hands into everything and it's important for a candidate to know that and have the skills to navigate that. Now should it be like that, hell no, but it's a fact of NJ Government overreach.

What has hiring people who know the “political scum in this state” achieved for Rutgers Athletics?
Do we have more funding than previously?
Benefits?

If we had a different AD, do we not get the APC funds?

Think you answered your own question. Hobbs was plugged into Trenton. Gov Christie appointed him to a position, and at the time, Hobbs was a Democrat.
Is it a prerequisite to "know the political scum?" No. But it did help in getting funding from the State that RU did not get before. Winning big in football and men's hoops will probably bring in as much or more money.

Think navigating the NJ/NYC media is also an important skill.

Minimally. RU isn’t newsworthy compared to the pro team. Media savvy matters more at Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma etc where there’s nothing else for sports media to cover.

no not really but that's the narrative and story that's told

I'd agree with it with respects to Bob M and those days but that era is long gone given the changes to education, sports, and national media related matters.
