PLS is offering a "Fit 4 Change" 12 week program on the coast starting in January. My Question: Has anyone participated in any of his training programs before and is it worth the time? The majority of his clientele appear to be in the Jackson/Madison area, but aside from a few testimonials on the website I have not been able to get any reliable feedback. That said, does anyone here on the pack have any comments, opinions, pros, cons etc? Link below.

I've never done it. I have known people that have.

Its the real deal. Expect to be coached hard. And by hard I mean with old school football coach style *** chewings. Some people are OK with that. Some aren't.

Flab reports, you decide.

Big Bully who used to post on this site has gone through it a couple of times. He's a huge fan and has lost a lot of weight. He also got a meniscous injury from it too.

Edit: Pretty sure Mr. Meoff has done it too and he liked it. They both did say that it is grueling and early in the morning. That was all I needed to hear to know I'll never try it.

I've done it twice. Like the other posters have said, it's 12 grueling weeks (wait until you have to push boards, that's the worst), early in the morning (5 and 6 a.m. classes in Madison) and expect to get cussed at old school football coach style. However, I think most former or current athletes would like it. It's good motivation and helps you get the best out of it.

I liked it a lot and lost about 35 lbs in 12 weeks, so it definitely works. Be warned though, don't be late and don't slack, or he'll blow you out in front of everybody.

On the link it says one of the requirements is you must get 20 people to register for the 5K. Obviously this is one of his ways to promote, but does the 5k cost the people anything and how strict are they on the number 20? What if I ask everyone I know and can only get 12? Do I forfeit my money? Also in your past experiences has anyone been kicked out for effort or attitude?

Is there anything that is stressfull on the lower back in terms of vertical compression (ie: deadlifts, squats, jumping or running with weights)?

This check will not be deposited unless you fail to complete this program for any reason whatsoever. Participants will receive their checks back at the Paul Lacoste Sports 5K upon the completion of the program. Applicants are not eligible for consideration into the program until your check is received.
Mandatory: 1-Page Testimonial on why you should be selected to participate

So you get your $720 back if you complete the program? The only confusing thing here is having to invite and get 20 people registered in a 5k. SHIRLEY every participant doesn't have to got get 20 other people registered for a 5k.

That is my other main question.. and what if you do get people to register, but they don't show up! Regardless $720 bucks is a hell of an incentive to push through the pain and early training times.

I signed up in Jackson area couple years ago. It is intense, harder than anything you've probably done but well worth it. Paul is hard core, shows up w/ the music blaring in his vehicle hollering @ the top of his lungs @ 4:30 in the a.m. I had just done my first marathon and THOUGHT I was in shape, wasn't even close to being in shape until I finished his program. If you are expecting a participation medal and a pat on the back if you can't hang, forget it. The abs workouts @ the end were the worst for me......

Yes, all of the above. You do lunges with plates and squats both with and without plates and sometimes have to run with plates. You also do these terrible things called inch worms where you have to crawl while keeping your arms and legs straight that I imagine would hurt your back. Also, you'll flip tractor tires... My buddy actually had to stop coming for awhile because he started having back pain.

However, if you have back problems or past injuries to other areas, they are willing to give you some alternative exercises if something comes up that you don't think you can do.

I'm really not sure on most of your questions. I actually took the pay class, instead of the Fit for Change class, so I forfeited my money anyway. This is the first I've heard of him giving discounts for getting people to run the 5k.

Some of the fit for change participants did work out with us at that time. They were mostly lower income people who were in bad shape who signed up and Paul accepted intot he class. The Mississippi Beverage Program paid for them to participate. In those classes, I saw Paul kick multiple fit for change people out for dragging. He didn't have much slack on them, since they were being sponsored and there were others who were turned away so they could have a spot. I never saw him kick out anybody in the pay classes though.

BTW, someone told me last week that our boy Paul Lacoste was suffering from an illness (i think West Nile)....

Here's to a speedy recovery for Paul. I say do it, support the guy and get yourself in shape.....and, whatever you do, don't talk back to him- he likes that.

Thanks. That's cool. I can probably do that.

Weighted lunges, squats, and stuff are actually OK if I can keep the weight moderate and push for more reps or less rest between sets instead of more weight.

I can do inch worms (I've called them "walkouts").

Running with plates....meh...I'll hope for a pass

I did P90X

Solely becuase I knew I was going to have issues getting my *** up that early. I don't mind working out or working hard, or even having my *** chewed, but I was afraid I was going to miss workouts by oversleeping. So, I just did P90X and had very good results. I need to do it again so I can get in shape. The good thing about that or Insanity is you can make it fit your schedule and not Paul LaCoste's.

But, if you want possibly even more of a challenge, Paul LaCoste might be the way to go.

Oddly enough, my problem is after the 13 weeks, I was like I can give myself a break, and that break has lasted WAY too long. That's the "problem" with these programs. What do you do once you complete the program?

I signed up. Hope I get selected. Looks like its not automatic that enrollees get to do it.

What to do after...well you need to keep signing up for things. Maybe not 12-week things. But a Warrior Dash, 5k races, triathlons, something...

I got out of shape in 2012 and it was my own damn fault. Part of it was taking 3 months off to study for a test. Let me tell you at 42 years old it was mighty damn shocking how far 3 months off set me back. Its felt like starting completely over at ground zero. I know it comes back and comes a lot faster than it did the first time ever, but damn its a grind.

That is a good suggestion. I did do the Warrior Dash- but I wasn't real serious about it. Made it through though!

Maybe I should just do something like a 5K a month or a goal like that next time.

As Patdog said, I've done PLS twice. In short its addictive! Especially if you are competitive and like to push yourself. However, its not for everyone. You have to be ready to push yourself and work HARD. As long are you are giving full effort and have a good attitude, you will do fine. But it is tough! We had a high school kid who is a lineman for Madison Central join our group one morning for a workout (his dad was in our group); after the second station of the workout he was puking his guts up on the track. Not to scare anyone off but to point out that is will be tough.

So far I've lost 40+ lbs and am probably the best shape in 25 years (yes, I'm an old fart). During the program you are held accountable for your actions during the training sessions and your off hours (i.e., your weight and your diet). We have weigh every Thursday and if you start gaining weight, Paul will call you out on it.

Lastly, if you are offended by profanity. You may want to reconsider PLS. Paul is not shy about using colorful language (17 is one of his favorite words). However, Paul is totally committed and will push you farther that you think you can go. I'm having my knee fixed next week, but I will definitely be joining for the summer session in Madison.

If you have any more specific questions, PM me.

The heck with summer. Will you be ready for spring tennis season? Seriously, good luck with the knee.
