Will be in Pensacola in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone has played any courses over there recently. I have played Tiger Point in the past and it was pretty decent. I did not make it down last year so I don't know if any courses in better shape than others. What are some others worth trying out?

Tiger Point has been in phenomenal shape the last couple of months. We haven't had much rain in Gulf Breeze so Sunday it was playing very fast on the greens and fairways. Hidden Creek is supposed to unveil their new greens in a couple of weeks. Osceola is fun and cheap @ 20 for 18 with cart, but it's an easy walking course. From all accounts Marcus Pointe is in good condition and is a good layout. I personally don't like Scenic but it was in good condition last I played it. For me it's TP, Marcus Point, Hidden Creek (if the greens are done) Osceola, then Scenic.

awesome thanks. hopefully we will get a round at TP and Marcus Pointe. Unless you think the new greens will be up and going by July 4th week.

I always play Marcus Pointe when I'm in Pensacola and it's the best in the area

in my opinion. Last year ( 4th of July week) they were "redoing" the greens or something that caused them to be closed that week so I played Hidden Creek which also a good course but not as appealing to me as Marcus Pointe. You can't beat $40 for that course. Be sure to call ahead to be sure they are open that particular week. We are heading down next week and plan on playing it as well....

If you are actually a colonel or retired military (and I'm not doubting you ) ... the naval air station in Pensacola has 3 courses that are very enjoyable at a very reasonable price

Played AC Read late April, the greens were in awful condition on the course that we played.

Hidden Creek will not be done by the 4th they are opening the greens for Boo Weekley's tournament late July. I think I have some buy one greens fee get one free for MP & TP, let me know and I can get them to you.

I've never played the courses at the Naval Air Station, but an avid golfer friend of mine has played there several times and he says the courses are outstanding.

I played yesterday at a course on Redstone Arsenal (they have two), and while they are really nice course layouts, they don't take care of them. The fairway grass was a full two inches high, and the rough was about four. I thought it might be because of reduced funding because of sequestration, but thinking about it they've always been that way. From my friend's recommendation, I can only assume that they take care of the courses there and actually mow the fairways more than once every two weeks. Also ... Redstone's greens on the 9 I played on were very, very grainy and bumpy and looked like they hadn't been mowed in a couple of days (the greens are Bermuda, and Bent Grass grows just fine here ... I suppose they were looking for low maintenance). And of the 4 nines at Redstone, there are 4 different types of greens grass. So take it for what it's worth ... Pensacola NAS may be just fine, as I've been told, in contrast to Redstone.
