Garden and Gun is a great magazine. Anyone that doesn't subscribe may want to look into it. It is very well put together.

it's better than dooey's imo. and it's better just because of their bbq brisket sandwich. electric sex for the mouth.

I can say that it TOTALLY depends on what time you show up. If you don't get there around 'prime time', you are going to get a warmed up (via microwave) batch of meat. You're better off getting there late then early, if you want to get the fresh stuff.<div>

Morris's (formerly Sonny's) out on 16th Section Road has the best BBQ in the Golden Triangle, and to borrow a line from Rick Stansbury, maybe even the best in the country. Petty's has great value and the Dooey has prestige, but I swear to god the soul and flavor out of Morris's is unmatched.

And while we're talkin Q, Archibald's in Northport has the best sauce ever, and was always better than Dreamland in my opinion.

I'm a total copycat when it comes to BBQ.

My brisket is Texas style, ribs are Kansas City, pulled pork is Memphis and I have sauce recipes from all plus Carolina and Alabama.
That way my customers get served what they like.

Interstate BBQ for pulled pork in Memphis.
Jack Stack BBQ for ribs in Kansas City.
Luling's BBQ for brisket in Houston Texas. If I could only have one for a last meal, it would be the brisket at Luling's. Great Texas pit BBQ from a hole in the wall.

you should try it. May not match up with the best in Texas but it's definitely the finest I have tasted East of the Mississippi.

I've tried some of Memphis's most famous BBQ, and it's good. But it'sno better than a lot I've had in Mississippi. Mississippi BBQ is the same as Memphis, just in smaller towns.

Any BBQ establishment in Memphis or MS that has been in business longer than a year serves good Q. Otherwise they wouln't stay in business. I do wish we had more Texas style brisket. When done right, Brisket may even surpass pig.

It wasn't on the menu, but it was the best burger ever. The barbeque was fantastic too and their hot bbq sauce was both actually hot and a bbq sauce.

Tango's BBQ, in a Shell station off the Highway 11 exit of I-59. Multiple time Memphis in May winner owns it. If you're down this way and like good Q, go there.

And when Lent rolled around a catfish po-boy. I went every Friday for Lent and eventually Mr Petty put so much catfish on the sandwich I had to take some filets off and make a seperate meal of them.

</div><div>ETA: The last I heard the owner of Sonny's, Mr. Sonny, passed away about 3-4 years ago and the joint had its name changed (I assume to Morris'). From what I heard it stayed within the family and the BBQ/burgers are just as good as they were during Mr. Sonny's time.</div>

I grew up in Memphis, Grad from MSU 2006, tried Sonny's, Petty's, LD, but the best is The Shed on Hwy 57 Vancleave, MS hands down. They have the prestige and the best sauce with never reheated pulled pork. Consistentlythe best BBQ you will ever eat.<div>

So you are talking about Corky's or the Rendezvous right? Both suburb/tourist ****. No one inside the loop goes to those places unless they are with family who "heard about Corky's". you need to hit Central, The BBQ Shop, Cozy Corner, etc. Hell, I loves me some GT Commissary with their meaty ribs and awesome sides.

Mississippi has some good BBQ, and I will eat me some Petty's with a big smile on my face, but it's not the same.

Some of the most heated discussions I've ever seen are over restaurants. I just don't get it.

I like the Shed. It's great for what it is, which is a damned good place to have fun on a Saturday night. Oh, and they serve BBQ and potato salad too.

But I don't think they dominate the BBQ contests like you claim. In fact, I thought they mostly got their *** whipped.

Big Bob Gibson in North Alabama is supposed to be wonderful too, and I left thinking "yeah, okay, it was BBQ".

Maybe I'm missing something.

and not necessarily Memphis, has the best BBQ. Every town has one or two places (mom and pop places) with smoke rising out of the chimney. Of course there are duds but overall West Tenn has some of the best BBQ in the world. I grew up in very North Miss and have sampled some of these places for several several (more than I wish) years.

Heck, Pontotoc has two of the best BBQ places I have ever tried. Lived in Memphis for four years and the BBQ is good but none make you want to knock yourself flapping your tongue.

Worst BBQ.....south Georgia. 17 they thought some sloppy joe's type crap was great BBQ. Actually bragged about how good it was. Absolute worst.

Head down Old 82 towards the MSU Golf Course. Before you get to the course, hang a left on 16th Section Road. A little ways down you'll see Morris BBQ on the left. From what I remember they were only open Thursday-Saturday or something like that. I haven't been since it was Sonny's, but I hear it hasn't changed. That damn triple burger dipped in the hot sauce is the stuff of legends.
