What kind of pocket knife is the Pack toting these days? I've been on Kershaw for several years, currently carrying a Scallion model. It's perfectly fine and typically I'm so bad to lose one that I haven't looked to upgrade. Are Benchmade's or similar brands really that much better/nicer?

It kinda surprises me that more people don't have one these days - I bet I use mine a half-dozen times a day. Just a plain ol Swiss Army knife on your keychain would be extremely useful. Probably at least partially related but also it's absolute bullshiit the number of places you can't bring a normal small pocket knife into anymore.

Spyderco paramilitary 2. Designed by a great engineer, fits my hand in every position, the tip is fine enough for digging out a splinter or cleaning out a knot from the eye of a fish hook. Tough enough for any regular knife chore and opens in about 5 different ways. This is my model in Cruwear steel, which holds a heck of an edge and strops up nicely. My go to church knife is a Great Eastern Cutlery.

Most times you'll have to ask TSA what I was carrying, so because of that, I try to keep it cheap. I have a carabiner "claw knife" from Amazon. Really not the best because it doesn't lock. But 99% of the time when I need one it's just to open a package or cut through something pretty simple like a zip tie and it does the job. Think I got like 3 for $10 and I'm only down one to TSA so far, so probably will stick with it when I donate the last of them.

I found this Sheffield Boreal half buried in sand at a very unimproved gravel boat ramp on the Mississippi in Burgas, LA about five years ago. Google tells me it’s a $20-$25 knife. I’ve managed to keep up with it and an old skinning knife from my power company days 30 years ago for longer than any other knives I’ve had. The Sheffield is great, and gets used every day.

CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool Co.) Squid model $32 in my pocket just for packages and small crap, and a Leatherman Rebar $80 that I keep in my truck console or pocket if I know I'm going to be working on something. Check out the CRKT online, they have some really good stuff at good prices, Amazon carries some of them too

Gerber Dime, really like it. Those scissors work well on fingernails.

I carried a Benchmade of some sort or another for the past decade. I really liked their Bugout, but I’ve had two of them break in the past six months. The Axis lock springs just gave up the ghost on both of them. Had a Presidio that quit on me too. Same thing. Broken spring. I’ve still got a couple Benchmades in the rotation, but I bought a Spyderco Bodacious a month or so ago and I really like it so far. I’ll eventually send the Benchmades back for repair, but it sucks to have an otherwise great knife quit over a spring issue.

2 EDC that depend on what I am wearing as to which:
-Benchmade bugout (worth every penny and then some)
-ProTech Spring assist (one of the best brands I have ever owned and expensive and I would still pay more ****and I am cheap***)

on Sundays: Case baby butter bean
*I collect Case Congress models as I can find them

Bench made shoot out Tanto Love it stays sharp quick and easy open out of the pocket.

it is a little flimsy for heavy duty work.

Also love a Laguiole just the look and feel Still carry one now and then

When I worked I carried a Leatherman. For pocket carry I have a couple of Benchmades that I rotate. I have two CRKT knives that I really like the design. If I know that I’m going to be using it I carry an Outdoor Edge 2.5 with interchangeable blades. I really like knives.

Keyshaw make a Benchmade quality line of knives. They are called Zero Tolerance I think. They’re a little on the heavy and bulky side to me.

I had to toss a Tree Brand that I'd had for many years just prior to boarding once. I now have a cheapie Chinese Buck brand, but I don't carry it around.

I have been carrying a Benchmade Osborne 940-2 for a year. Honestly I never thought I would willingly pay that much for a pocket knife but dang it just feels good in the hand and I've come to love the axis lock . There is a huge modding community and you can buy aftermarket parts to make a custom variant.

If they made an Osborne mini auto I wouldn't hesitate buying one either.

For Sunday best I have a boker two blade trapper that the quality if far better than Case.

I feel you on that one. I've left several pocket knives in planters at airports or events and surprised they are still there when I return. Knock on wood I haven't lost one yet, but since I've started carrying a Benchmade, I carry a cheaper knife if there is any chance there will be metal detectors.

Just keep it cheap. You never know when you’ll need to go somewhere where security will not let you enter with a knife, just chunk it in that situation

Benchmade is what I carry everywhere, have 4 of them currently. Tried a Spyderco but the blade broke. I have a Kershaw I used to carry hunting but it doesn't hold an edge as well and is hard to get as sharp as I like it. I do have a CRKT that I use a lot working in the shop or yard, figured if it broke or was lost i wouldn't miss it but it keeps chugging along.

Ontario Rat and Rat IIs have doubled in price over the last few years but are still outstanding for the money.
