Dale with the some of the best baseball I've seen in awhile and your experiences in the Big Leagues I had a question about baseball players and their superstitions. When my son was playing ball at RU the team was put up in a hotel, the Hilton Netherland Plaza Cincinnati the place was suppose to be haunted as hell. He said that they where told that a lot of Latin Guys on pro teams would go down the road and not even stay there. Could be true could be lore but when he went on to play Independent ball he said he never was with so many guys with superstitions, did you have any yourself or did you play with and against a lot of superstitious players.

I think a lot of athletes are, to some extent, superstitious.

I'm not saying I'm superstitious, but in part I credit the Mets win last night to me not watching it. I checked in occasionally, but with 2 outs and only up by 1, I just couldn't watch the last out. Mets fans - you're welcome.

Truthfully, I think rituals and routines are better
words to use.
I don't remember anyone being overly superstitious.
Yes, you repeated your routines if you were hot, but don't you do that in your normal life.

That would be like a curse if your favorite team always won if you didn't watch them play and always lost if you did. Although I guess you could make some money gambling on them if that was the case.

Can't say I've ever had a hot day at the office, well except when the AC goes out.

Hey, haven't you ever been on a hot streak with the ladies…same thing?
Sometimes you strikeout, but then you start making contact, get some confidence and go on a hot streak.

I put on my right sock, then left, right shoe, then left. Been doing it every day for 30+ years. Crazy, but I won't change the order.

Another question for zap : how did you become a Rutgers fan ?
Sorry Plum
I've been over that dozens of times on this board. To make a long story very short, I'm 18 years old away playing baseball with kids from all over the country.
"Do they play football in NJ"
My response was if we kept all our Jersey kids home we'd kick all of your asses.
40 years later I'm still waiting...LOL

I'm not saying I was being superstitious but after the Mets won game 3 I made sure to wear the same shirt and gym shorts to watch game 4. Needless to say I switched it up for game 5.

Sorry to piggyback but your story is so much mine except it was a frat house in Missouri instead of the minors. I can even tell you the day....1969 Centennial Game RU vs Princeton. Same comments about not knowing they played football in NJ. Funny because even at a DII school in the middle of nowhere one of the school's best players on the team was from I believe Scotch Plains.
