We prefer Perdido. Beach Colony Resort, through VRBO.com; Less traffic. Less crowded. Not that either are that big of a deal in early fall.

For that area, Ft Morgan. Way less crowded, no goofy golf, no go carts, t-shirt shops, etc. Stop in @ Rouses grocery store on the way in and get everything you need and enjoy.

Would you recommend Ft Morgan for a family with two kids under 5?

We've stayed in orange beach twice, and I personally would prefer less crowded area but wasn't sure what was available in Ft Morgan. I guess the biggest thing would be access to a pool because we prefer to play in a pool with the small kids rather than the the beach. I guess when I think ft Morgan I always think beach houses.

Another reason I like orange beach is because I like running on the trails between ob & gulfshores. Anyone know if there's anything similar in the ft Morgan area?

We went to Orange Beach last weekend and had a blast. I haven't been down there in 10 years though.

Fort Morgan is where my family is headed in mid June for the 3rd year in a row. We always have a great time, and the house we stay at does have a community pool. The crowds on the beach are way less bothersome than Gulf Shores in my opinion (that tends to be were all the redneck LSU fans congregate). Don't get me wrong, I like Gulf Shores for a quick and cheap weekend or day trip, but private beaches are way more comfortable for a week long trip. My only complaints about Fort Morgan are the extra 30 minutes of driving to get there and the lack of any close by restaurants or attractions (except the Fort). But hey, thats the trade off for avoiding crowded/noisy beaches. My advice if you go to Fort Morgan is to bring something frozen to eat for supper the first night so you don't have to wait 3 hours to eat after you're already starving to death from driving and unpacking that day. The first night is always the busiest night at the restaurants in Foley and Gulf Shores.

Navarre...very family friendly....yes, it's further but it's the same price as GS/OB and the water is always crystal clear if you do choose to get in the Gulf, I switched to the Pan-handle when the prices in AL caught up. Water clarity is important to me because I spend a lot of time in the Gulf.

Stayed in Ft Morgan for the first time last year, and absolutely loved it. Left all our stuff on the beach every night and never lost a thing except for a skim-board to the tide. Reminded me of Destin when I was a child, except for the water quality. As has already been posted, pack in everything you need for the duration as there are few restaurants or shopping anywhere nearby.

If we don't stop getting so much damn rain, the water is never going to get clear. It's still a little tan west of the pier. Navarre is looking go though.

Yo, I am at the Beach Colony Resort as I type! Been here the last 3-4 years...

And love it. Looks like tomorrow and Sunday may suck weather wise but I am chilling regardless

Turquoise is the only correct answer.

#lifestyle.
No doubt. Or maybe Bella Luma, those are hard to beat. But if the OP is more of an average Joe type like me, those are a stretch on the budget. If you don't mind not being on the beach, there are several on Wolf Bay that are very reasonable with pretty views. Five minute drive to the beach. If you do want something more secluded on the western side of the coast, look at Sailboat Bay condos. I gated commuted and a smallish beach within walking distance. Prices pretty reasonable.

Beach Club in ft Morgan. Dollar General is 8 miles away. Bring groceries. Water is not as blue and you see the oil rigs. After about a half hour on the beach, you won't give a crap.

Ft Morgan road has a decent shoulder to run on that goes for miles either way. There's a 3 mile nature trail at the Bon secour park but it's 3 plus from beach club. Wasn't up for a 12 miler.

If you want to avoid lsu people, go to gulf shores proper. Bama people everywhere there.

Out on the road there is a good shoulder to run on... Yep. That sums up all the pros about the Beach Club.
