Well I’m down in LBI and the water was in the 60s…

There is a very marked delta between warm water and cold water in the North Atlantic right now. The Gulf Stream is effectively gone, as you can see from the latest (today) SST map.

A 60% chance of above-normal Atlantic hurricanes.

Aligns neatly with the Pew Research report released just the other day that says roughly 60% of Americans want action taken to combat global warming.

The report is controversial but the worst case scenario could be two years away.

It's unquestionable that a very significant change to the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation - not just the Gulf Stream. In the near term the melting of sea ice and glacier ice in Greenland and the Arctic will keep temps in the North Atlantic cold and the water will become less salty as it's diluted with melted ice. After that..? Don't know, I don't think. It's anybody's guess but my guess would be that within 5 years of Arctic ice effectively disappearing the entire Atlantic will warm.

There's two things I want to see happen, from a diagnostic perspective. First, I want to see what this hurricane season does. It's been quiet so far, but come September when we typically start to see the CV tracks headed west toward the Gulf the sea temps around southern Florida and Cuba should have a noticeable effect.

Second, we might start to see wildfires in Northern Europe similar to what we're seeing in Canada. They're just used to dealing with that sort of thing. People over there will positively freak.

I’ll bet that you are a very good guy. But it’s obvious through your hundreds of thousands of posts that you are not well-read or a deep thinker. You’re better when you comment on b-ball. Enjoy the weekend.
yep you can keep trotting out doomsday stuff....have you blamed the fires in Hawaii yet on climate change...there are adults..scientists who see exactly what is going on. The disaster of covid made people lose faith in science...now it appears once again THEY will try and double down on hysteria

I haven’t posted in the Hawaii thread and don’t get involved in the COVID arguments, and very very rarely post anything about global warming.

Can you now understand a little bit what I was getting at when I wrote that you aren’t a deep thinker?

So you posted an alarmist story that haa been disputed by some who are not even the biggest pushers of climate hysteria

See what I mean..the climate hysteria is getting out of control. The approach to treating everything as dire is probably not the best one going forward

I’m not Numbers. I’m not going to get into pointless arguments with you. You quoted me. and I tried to let you know that I wouldn’t engage. Usually I gloss over your posts because you just don’t make interesting points outside of your MBB contributions.

The problem is no one wants to discuss the real problem. The global population has doubled since the 1970's. All that development to support the population is stressing the earth. To quote Dwight Schrute, the world needs another plague. Looks like they tried that. 😜

Yeah let’s take ‘action’ to combat predictions from dumb f@@ks ( aka “experts” & “climate scientists”) that are wrong about everything. Maybe we should at least see how hurricane season pans out before we speculate.

The thing we’re not allowed to mention, the whole trans movement and last but not least a war in Eastern Europe ( which may lead to nuke exchanges) will lead to long term population reduction. Frankly ppl are so dumb nowadays it’s probably for the better

Good because you posted a ridiculous alarmist argument panned by most...but why

The GS is not effectively gone…

There’s a lot more to hurricane season than just hot water…an existing low, distance poleward of about 10 degrees and a lack of speed and directional wind shear…el nino years, like we are in now, traditionally traditionally experience fewer storms in the Atlantic and more in the Pacific.

So far that has played out quite nicely this season. I’d go to NOAA or NASA for hurricane info and NOT CNBC.

Well, here we go.. its mid-august in a few days.. ready for teh last "prediction" by various official and unofficial sources... now they will have, what is it, 3 prediction sets they can use to tell us how accurate they are?

Lets see what happens.

That is a great link... doesn't the GS usually bring some warmer water as far as Ireland?

"Lose faith in science"-- as they post on handheld devices that can communicate instantly across the globe while playing music and taking pictures at the same time--and take daily pills that keep them alive. Those rotten scientists!
