Will be in New Albany this weekend for a tennis tournament, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any decent local places to eat, if there are any. Thanks.

El Agave is a good Mexican place. Also have a new Japanese restaurant here called Yamato. I haven't been yet but have heard its good. They both serve alcohol. Pizza Pit is good but pretty much limited to pizza, wings, and burgers

Vainisi's is a good, locally owned Italian restaurant in the middle of downtown.

George's vote again. West Side BBQ out hwy 30 is always pretty good. More famous for their cakes than BBQ though. Tallahatchie Gourmet has a creole twist and to be so far north it will surprise you. The tennis complex in New Albany is a pretty awesome setup. One of the top complexes in the state. Should be a good tournament.

Don't be cruel BBQ competition is in Tupelo this weekend, if you want to make the drive over from New Albany. Something to do depending on when your tournament is finished or if you're looking for something tonight. They'll have music and normally some of the local BBQ will be set up selling.

And if you like old school doughburgers, go by Latham's in NA. Real small hole in the wall place. Not great food, but you can have a good greasy doughburger with a real glass bottle of coke.

I'm from New Albany. Although I haven't lived there in 15 years, my parents still live there so I go from time to time.

George's ... It's just a fried chicken and burger place. But it's a good local place.
Taylor's ... I'm only familiar with the lunch buffet. My parents--and much of the rest of the town--go there most Sundays for lunch. If you do go on Sunday, go early. Can get pricey if you're paying for several.
West Side BBQ ... I grew up on this. But I've had much better since I've "grown up". It's still decent, but the pulled pork is nothing special. Like someone else said, their cakes are good.
Speaking of cakes, there's a good bakery downtown called Sugaree's.
Tallahatchie Gourmet opened within the last few years. I've only been a couple times but it's not bad.
If you really want a unique local stop, try Latham's. They make doughburgers. It's sorta hidden on the backside of downtown. It's been forever since I've been, and I really don't remember if I liked it. But it's unique. 98% of urbanspoon reviewers can't be wrong, right?

Don't leave town without getting a cheeseburger from George's.
Vainisi's is pretty good.
I never liked Latham's, but I guess it would be okay for people who like doughburgers. It isn't easy to find, but it's on Main Street. Keep in mind that Main Street isn't necessarily the "main" street. That would be Bankhead Street. Anyways, Latham's is a couple doors down from Rutledge Printing.
If you want BBQ, West Side is your best (possibly only) choice.

I live in NA and have my whole life and wouldn't recommend West Side. It's not real bbq. It's basically boiled meat slathered with bbq sauce. There is a new place on Carter Ave called The Warehouse that is supposed to have good steaks. I haven't had a chance to go yet but have heard only good things about it. Agree on George's also if you've never been

Yamato is good. It's not a Mt. Fugi, but still good. It's on hwy 30 just a couple of hundred yds west of hwy 78.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. We ended up eating at Pizza Pit Friday night because of convenience and they served beer. Pizza and wings were both good. We left Saturday during the early afternoon so didn't get to try out anything else, got to hit Little Dooey on the way home though so that was good. We had a couple more friends with us that had a little easier schedule to deal with in the tournament and I told them about George's and Latham's from this thread and they said they had great food at both. I will definitely try out both of them next time we were up there.

Not a lot in New Albany. But you are close to Oxford with all its great eateries and you can get into a fight with a missionary while there.
